Just keep painting,
Just keep painting.
(Me trying to manage my anxiety after waking up and scrolling the news feed for the 404th day)
Soon the gray of winter will be replaced with saturated colors. Thank goodness.
For now, Iβm #painting #flowersβbecause there is joy in each delicate petalβand we do need that, right?

photo of the artist holding a painting of 3 white daffodils and 3 snowdrops painted in a botanical style in a black floater frame.
photo of a botanical style oil painting of three white daffodils and three snowdrops. There are three daffodil buds that have not opened. Crawling up two stems are small black ants. A cabbage butterfly is resting on a closed bud in the upper left and from the right a bumble bee is approaching the tallest center flower. The insects are all draw in graphite.
Thereβs a lot that feels heavy right now and to be honest, Iβve found it difficult to step up to the easel without feeling guilty. But these past two weeks Iβve been planning flowers for the summer and thinking about what I wanted to paint, and feeling the need to create.. 𧡠1/4 #art #sciart

Looking across the artistβs drawing table, in the foreground is a small sketchbook with a tiger swallowtail butterfly drawn in graphite. The actual butterfly lies in a green dish center of image. Above cropped and extended out of frame is a painting of yellow sunflowers that the butterfly will be added to. To the right, cropped and extended out of a frame is a small craft container with multiple compartments holding the artistβs bug collection.

Folks, please donβt tell artists they shouldnβt be making or selling their art right now. For many, itβs how they pay the bills. Art is vital during times like this. ALL ART. Whether itβs a protest sign or a book cover or just a beautiful drawing. Itβs part of the heart of humanity.

The Trump regime is smearing this man - Alex Pretti - as a βdomestic terrorist.β We canβt let them get away with it.
Alex Pretti was a patriotic American - far more so than the ICE agent who murdered him on the streets of Minneapolis today. Far more so than Trump, Stephen Miller, or any of them.

Photo of an art panel with the artist using a ruler and charcoal pencil to draw the lines of the harmonic armature directly on to the panel. There is a text panel overlay that reads βItβs been a long time since I covered an entire panel with paint, so I decided to start like I normally would and drew out the harmonic armature.β
Photo of the art panel on the easel with orange lines of the drawing for a painting partially sketched out over the harmonic armature. The artistβs hand and paintbrush are in motion sketching directly on to the panel. The text panel overlay reads βMy brain needs structure, and the armature allows me to create dynamic compositions that donβt feel as predictable as the rule of thirds.β
Close up of the painting, further along in the process. The large center of a sunflower can be seen and some of the outer panels. The artistβs hand can be seen entering the frame, upper right, holding a paintbrush and painting final details on a bee. The text panel overlay reads βPushing paint around was fun, but the most surreal moment for me was painting a bee since I normally draw my insects in graphite.β
Image of the artist holding the completed painting that is framed in black floater frame. She is mostly cropped out of frame so the focus is on the painting. The painting is of a large sunflower with a smaller sunflower behind it to the left. The centers are a muted yellow ochre with pale off white petals. The text overlay reads βThis painting is so different from my other work, but it felt good and I had a lot of fun.β
Need a doomscrolling break? This was painted for a thematic group show called Taking Chances. It was a lovely change of pace to be a little freer with paint! See it in person through end of January at Red Raven Art Co. in Lancaster, PA.

Christine is standing at the easel painting a large floral oil painting of purple irises. Her palette of mixed oil colors and brushes can be seen in the foreground.
Why does a new year always feel so good? I've reorganized & cleaned the studio, updated my #Notion workspace, & I'm finalizing my 1st quarter painting plan. What all do you do to start off a new year?
(looked at this #iris #painting yesterday, and I canβt wait for irises to bloom again)

Photo of a cut-paper artwork that depicts: a person with short light brown hair and big blue eyeglasses, in an orange tank top and earrings. The person is pictured at a kind of diagonal angle, on a plain white background.
Same art piece as in previous pic, being held up in the artist's hand so you can see how small it is. (Pretty small.)

a small square botanical style oil painting with a neutral background and three cosmos flowers. from left, one fully open white one is awaiting and approaching bee, which is drawn in graphite. The middle one is the tallest and is white and just beginning to open. The far right bloom is in a tighter bud but the burgundy petals are visible and barely beginning to open. An ant is crawling up the middle stem.
Feels like forever until cosmos bloom again, but for now I am very much enjoying the snow and below freezing temperatures. I like cozy things too.
Who doesnβt?

Oh thank you! Yes, the white of magnolias is very unique.. it's not pure white. Painting from life helps because you can slow down and squint to see the colors that are there. Photos tend to blow out all of that subtle color and just make them look pure white.

A photo of the display of my work. Four botanical paintings of tulips, dahlias, peonies, and magnolias are hanging on the wall. And a table with a red covering is below with an assortment of my floral notebooks (and one snarky skeletal hand flipping the bird notebook)
This photo has three round wood panels with a black border featuring botanical style paintings of dahlias... Gingersnap dahlia, a red mignon seedling, and Platinum Blonde dahlia. Above is a graphic with Whitford at Malvern Flowers, their address: 142 W. King St., Malvern, PA 19355, and phone: 610-647-9311
Painted flowers surrounded by real flowers. Pretty poetic, don't you think?
My art and notebooks can now be found in Malvern, PA at Whitford at Malvern Flowers. πΈπ

My painting βSymbiosisβ. In the middle is a carnivorous Sundew plant, their small glands emit a sticky sweet attractant to catch insect prey. At first glance, the sundew & frogs seem devious, but there is an element of cooperation in the web of life.

A warm-grey stone with a portrait of a nightjar painted on it. Behind the nightjar is a full moon. A sprig of foliage reaches in from the left-hand-side. Around the edge of the stone are some other names for the nightjar, such as: evechur, gobble rach and Jenny spinner.
Day ten (!) of #ArtAdventCalendar - December is zooming by.
