“We’ve been crystal clear—students in Florida do not want to go to class in a world where their professor is carrying a gun.” - De’jah, Florida @studentsdemandaction.org leader, speaking out against a dangerous campus carry bill 💪
Our children shouldn’t be paying the price for irresponsible gun ownership with their lives. Find out more about how to securely store firearms to keep kids safe from @besmartforkids.bsky.social.
School shootings aren’t inevitable—they can be, and should be prevented with secure gun storage.
This week at Advocacy Day in Sacramento, our volunteers showed exactly why California is the national leader in gun violence prevention. 🧵
Students Demand Action leaders at the University of Texas at Austin held a vigil to remember their classmate, Savitha, and two other people who were shot and killed at Buford’s bar in Austin.
We should not be forced to plan memorials for our classmates. This is not normal. https://etwn.us/4rPVZPk
“When three out of four school shooters get their firearms from the home, these tragedies are not just predictable—they are preventable. This isn’t about punishing every parent; it’s about the life-and-death duty of adults to keep weapons out of the hands of children.” - @nicksuplina.bsky.social
As more and more Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers and survivors make the leap from advocating for laws to writing them, we’ll be there to support them.

We’re proud to announce our first round of endorsements of @MomsDemandAction.org volunteers who are running for office to protect their communities from gun violence. ⬇️
A mass shooting at a music venue in Cincinnati, Ohio left nine people wounded on Sunday morning. Our hearts are with the victims and families, and yet another community shaken by senseless gun violence. We shouldn’t have to live like this.
At least two people were shot and killed and 14 others were shot and wounded late last night at a bar in Austin, TX. Around the same time, nine people were shot and wounded at a music venue in Cincinnati, OH.
We don’t have to live like this. We all deserve to feel safe while enjoying a night out.
@besmartforkids.bsky.social teaches you how to securely store firearms, talk about secure storage with your loved ones, and keep kids safe.
Every year, hundreds of children in the US gain access to a gun and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. These tragedies are wholly preventable with secure gun storage.
A 24-year-old woman was tragically shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend—who then turned the gun on himself—at a shopping center parking lot in San Jose, California.
Every month in the US, more than 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner. Easy access to guns fuels this crisis.
Red Flag laws—or Extreme Risk laws—are a crucial, life-saving tool that allow loved ones to intervene to prevent gun violence before it happens. But these laws only save lives if people who need them know they exist, and know how to use them.

The season six finale of The Simpsons “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” was the first time the show prominently featured gun violence. But thirty years later, a child accessing a gun is no longer unheard of—it’s a part of our daily reality.

“This is what six months looks like. It is not a clean recovery. It is not closure. It is a child who still carries pieces of a weapon inside of him, pieces of ammunition.” - Brittany Haeg, whose first grader, David, was wounded in the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School
A photo of Trayvon Martin with text overlaying the image that says “We remember Trayvon Martin, Shot and killed in Sanford, Florida, 02.26.2012
It’s been 14 years since 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was pursued, shot, and killed by an armed vigilante while walking home from a Florida convenience store.
Trayvon’s family have not received justice—in part, due to Florida’s Shoot First law, which essentially gives people a license to kill. 🧵
Harry Kaiser’s daughter, Lydia, was shot in the head and wounded with an AR-15 at Annunciation Catholic School. Nearly six months later, Minnesota lawmakers have still done nothing.
“This time, we are not just moving on.”
Did you know that 96% of recovered crime guns were traced back to a purchase from a licensed gun dealer?
Gun dealers must do all they can to help stop illegal gun trafficking right at the source. We can’t let them turn a blind eye to the role they should play in keeping our communities safe.
When you reduce gun dealer oversight, make it easier to buy silencers, and shut down the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, you’re not tough on crime—you’re enabling it. #SOTU
Extremism fuels political violence—but easy access to guns makes it deadly.
We all must work toward a future where we resolve our differences with words, not bullets. #SOTU
REMINDER: Gun violence is the leading killer of children in America.
Not immigrants, not trans people. Guns. #SOTU
We’re monitoring the Trump Administration’s threats to public safety.
Ahead of tonight’s #SOTU, here’s a list of some of their most egregious actions that undermine our safety.
MOMS ARE MAKING IT HAPPEN: @abigailspanberger.com was inspired to run for office as a volunteer with our Virginia Moms Demand Action chapter.
Tonight, as the newly elected Governor of Virginia, she will deliver the Democratic response to the State of the Union address.

Earlier this week, I introduced AB 2047 to require firearm detection and blocking technology on 3D printers sold in California.
This legislation addresses the growing threat of 3D-printed ghost guns with proactive, upstream safeguards.

On this day six years ago, 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was pursued, shot, and killed by three white men while jogging near his home in Glynn County, Georgia. His killers attempted to use the state’s Shoot First law as a defense, but they were eventually convicted of murder and federal hate crimes. 🧵
This Oscar-nominated short documentary is changing the conversation, away from politics and back to feeling the weight of this crisis. The film never says the word “gun.” Instead, it centers the children whose futures were stolen, their families, and the love that remains.
“The sadness is a part of connecting with her,” Hallie Scruggs’ dad, Chad, shared in All The Empty Rooms. Hallie was just 9 years old when she was shot and killed during The Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Tennessee in 2023.
