As kids, we’d tell stories about the quarry, recount adult’s whispers of a man drowned with rocks in his pockets. Just stories. Tonight though, the dark has fallen fast, in that October way, and there’s a flatness to the water, as if iced, or magicked, maybe, to a sheet steel, lid-like.

Five Roman terracotta dishes, two of them bearing white encrustations after many centuries spent under water.

For generations, fisherman have been pulling Roman pottery out of the sea off the coast of Kent near Herne Bay. The site has become known as Pudding Pan Rock, as locals used the ancient dishes to cook puddings in. It is thought that they originate from an ancient shipwreck #FindsFriday.
