Politics is global now. Even a pared-down @washingtonpost focused only on politics and national security can't cover these topics without well-sourced reporters breaking news and explaining developments in Europe, China, the Middle East and beyond. #SaveThePost
I really enjoyed the interview. But bro, why do you say "Warner Bros" and not "Warner Brothers"? Is it related to "Mario Bros."?

I'm shocked & dismayed at how quickly everyone is falling into line. Universities are furiously scrubbing their websites of offending language to protect funding. Corporations are doing what you'd cynically expect (with a few exceptions like Costco β€οΈ). But HHMI? Why? "The best lack all conviction"
Thanks for your excellent reporting www.science.org/content/arti...
In light of recent developments (The "Fork in the Road" buyout letter, ouster of David Lebryk at Treasury, now access to the federal payments system), have you updated your assessment of Musk and DOGE?
I guess you don't read the WaPo.
Trump Truth Social post denying knowledge of Project 2025
Project 2025 Chapter 8 section directing the next President to "instruct the FCC to exclude the stations affiliated with PBS and NPR from the NCE [Non Commercial Educational] denomination and the privileges that come with it."
New York Times Headline: "F.C.C. Chair Orders Investigation Into NPR and PBS Sponsorships: Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, said the inquiry could help Congress decide whether to continue funding local stations."
Three paragraphs from the NYT article summarizing Mr. Carr's letter to NPR and PBS informing them that "the inquiry would focus on whether the news organizations' member stations violated government rules by recognizing financial sponsors on the air."
The coincidental alignment of Project 2025 and the Trump administration continues!

Israel has repeatedly denied that it blocks aid from reaching Gaza (www.bbc.com/news/article..., to cite just one example).
But by allowing aid to flow freely as part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel is essentially acknowledging that they were lying all along.

It's also worth noting that there are (at least?) two types of radiology: diagnostic and interventionist. My understanding is that AI is much worse at the latter.
The visual depth created by the varying tree size is indeed precocious. Not too shabby!
Is nature punking us?
I regret the time I've wasted regretting
I have wanted one for ages, but never had the courage to make the leap. Is it 440 Hz?
Just watched A Charlie Brown Christmas for the 100th time, and it occurs to me that Lucy gives Charlie Brown practical advice that successfully treats his depression. Not bad for five cents
Woke up in a cold sweat because I was going to fail my English class. Realized I hadnβt gone all year and didnβt even know my teacherβs name.
Is there an age limit to school nightmares ππ??
But had Lewis denied that Bezos wanted to stop endorsing presidential candidates? (Whether or not Bezos read a draft endorsement is a separate question.)
Where did he say that? I don't doubt it, just looking for a reference. Thanks

First we had broadcast TV. It was free, but you had to watch ads. Then we had premium cable: you had to pay, but it was ad-free. And somehow we wound up with the worst of both worlds (or the best of both worlds, if you're a media corporation): we pay to watch advertising π
Netflix - please stop minimising the end credits of movies to suggest something else. Let viewers enjoy the soundtrack and see the cast and crew that worked on the film. We'll exit it ourselves when ready to.

I just wanted to add one more level of nesting
Twitter had roughly 400 million users when Elon acquired it, roughly 20x current Bluesky. But it had over 7000 employees (> 350x current Bluesky). Musk is a loathsome right-wing edge lord troll, but could he have been right that Twitter had too many employees?

When was the last time the NYT crossword wasn't edited by Will Shortz? I guess the pre-stroke queue has cleared. Good luck with the recovery.
Btw, I enjoyed the puzzle, Jeff and Joel!
