I think this stuff is a combination of trying to emphasize how Trump is enriching the wealthy at the expense of everyone else and the more general eat the rich mindset, but embracing it looks like short term gains for long term entrenchment of anti tax sentiment across the spectrum.

Panel 1 is titled “Client Feedback (2012)
Red Guy sits at his desk typing on his laptop. There is a bubble on the right hand side of the panel showing his screen.
A small text panel says “and the”. There is an arrow pointing to the bottom of the words with a correction box that reads: “Text is slightly misaligned. Please fix”

Panel 2 is titled “Client feedback (2026)
Red Guy is slouched on chair typing into his phone. His phone screen shows a panel of text that is complete gibberish. This time the correction reads “not alphabet but who give a fuck”

The First Alert smoke detector just started low-battery chirping while my kid was sleeping, but I don't have any 9v batteries lying around, so I simply removed the battery. That didn't fix the problem. So I unplugged it. That didn't fix the problem. Now it's in the fridge.

Great work, everybody.

Narratively having Ever Given getting stuck in 2021 to set up Hormuz in 2026 is great foreshadowing. You want your audience to understand the basics of international shipping in a lower stakes context so you drop the real plot without a lot of saggy exposition about the minutiae of cargo logistics.

So many red state races are something like..

Democrat: War hero with a master's degree in public policy who was caught on camera running into a burning building to rescue orphans.
Republican: Adjudicated sex pest who inherited dad's car dealership.

Election result: R +18

Here's my bottom line:

Much of what they are doing is bad.
Much of what they are doing is unpopular.
Pushback is working.
We are winning.
Keep fighting.
Be creative.
Push for what you'd want.
Allow for insiders and outsiders.
Realize that change takes time.
Reduce harm in the meantime.

I see this a lot in the church these days. Churches that are still trying to “rise above everything that divides us” are pretty much signaling to me that they’re not serious about my belovedness before God.

I have a thought about the ambient conversation.

Performative support for marginalized groups is a good thing, but it is mostly to let fuckheads know that they need to reexamine their assumption that fuckheadedness is commonplace.

virtue signaling is good! it's good to signal virtue, it's good to practice virtue! it's bad to be so cynical and bitter that you can't even see that.

in a world where cruelty is being exported at scale both online and in the streets, it is extremely important to share your values and to signal to other people what you think is right.
