It’s those studies that I think fall short b/c being “on fire” doesn’t always cleanly fall into a statistical analysis because it doesn’t always take the same form. Steph Curry making 4 wide open shots in a row over a long period shows the same as 4 very hard shots in succession on a stat sheet.

In some cases it shows up in the stat sheet. In the example I gave, Kawhi shot 11/13 which is WAY above his average shooting %. Stats and eye test show he was on fire. The debunking in your original video is from studies that say making 2 shots in a row doesn’t mean you’re more likely to make a 3rd

For offense/confidence, there’s no stat for deciding whether to shoot. If you’re more confident, you’re more likely to take an otherwise risky shot you would’ve passed up if you weren’t “on fire.” For defense, there’s no stat for “on fire guy is double-teamed so teammate is wide open and made shot”

I just think in a muscle memory sport, confidence is so important and doesn’t show in the stat sheet. Same with how the hot hand can dictate the pressure the defense applies—it will never show on the stat sheet.
