I talked with Final Draft about going from writing insane theater to writing insane films, and the advice for screenwriters I keep shouting from the rooftops — DO NOT FOLLOW THE MARKETPLACE, FOLLOW YOUR HEART! www.finaldraft.com/blog/write-t...
@colbyday.com
I wrote In the Blink of an Eye (Sundance 2026), and the film Spaceman (now on Netflix), also writing the TV series For All Mankind and a newsletter about how writing for hollywood is normal and good Hollyweird.colbyday.com

if only there were other movies to watch.
The takeaway from this year???
No more waiting! We spent so much of this year waiting when we should have been barreling ahead.
In 2026 I am going to be pushy! Prepare yourselves.
I’ve had the privilege of getting a few things I’ve written produced, and this year my focus was on getting a film set up with me as the writer/director. All while balancing a million other jobs and some big personal news.
“My 2025 As A Working Screenwriter” I spent the last week combing through my calendar and emails to give you, the people of the internet, a clear, honest accounting of just how much work goes into trying to get anything made in Hollywood in a given year (lots!) open.substack.com/pub/colbyday...
IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE - @colbyday.com
The fastest I'll likely go between reading a script and watching the actual movie (GO SEE THIS AT SUNDANCE), but...wow. This script is something else. An expansive emotional epic across time that I simply cannot wait to see.

I've read around 75+ scripts this year.
With December wrapping up, I thought it'd be a good time to give a year end #SpecScriptShoutOut to some of the most memorable scripts I got to experience this year.
Let's dive in!

YES
Heyooo
I am pleased to report that good things can happen sometimes, and the feature film I wrote IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE is headed to Sundance!!! I will be there, and I would love for you to be there too! (rude THR didnt include my photo) www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
The Animaniacs MUST ACT now!
There is nothing “radical” about wanting a more equitable city. About wanting to be able to afford rent. About seeing the gap between the rich and the poor growing beyond comprehension. Any mainstream media organization portraying these promises as such is doing a disservice to the industry.
New NYC MAYOR, CA Prop 50 passes, we can do woke again!!!

can’t wait to make something insane
I started out as an intern in late night television so it only makes sense that my DIRECTORIAL DEBUT would be set in that crazy dumb world. Can’t wait to make this with THESE ABSOLUTE STARS. deadline.com/2025/10/tim-...
a girl should not have to work if it’s misty. She should be allowed to wander the moors wailing as nature intended
Wife’s out of town. Quick, turn on The Ladykillers (2004)!
Anyway, that's the answer!
More thoughts about juggling on my newsletter (which is free) and feel free to hit me up (as always) with any and all screenwriting craft and career questions.
I love talking about this stuff!
If you want to copy my development slate process and make your own, I went ahead and created a link to a free development template that you can copy and customize to your heart's content! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Here's what my current development slate looks like, if we're only looking at the "active" projects. Meaning, things I could expect to get an email about this week. How many things are "active" right now? I'd say 8-9. Is that sustainable? I don't think so!
