Screenshot of news article on Elon Musk and San Altman's online spat.

Transcript:
The Rundown: Elon Musk announced on X that xAI is taking legal action against Apple over pushing OpenAI’s products in the App Store and suppressing rivals like Grok, with the conversation spiraling after Sam Altman accused X of similar tactics.

The details:

Musk’s claim that it’s β€œimpossible for any company besides OAI to reach #1 in the App Store” was refuted on X, with DeepSeek and Perplexity as examples.

Musk then cited Altman’s own post receiving 3M views despite having 50x less followers, with Altman replying β€œskill issue” and β€œor bots”.

Grok was then tagged in, stating β€œSam Altman is right” and noting Musk’s β€œdocumented history of directing algorithm changes to favor his interests.”

Musk posted a screenshot of GPT-5 declaring him as more trustworthy than Altman, also noting that xAI was working to fix Grok’s reliance on legacy media.

Jonathan Anderson has been appointed sole creative director of Dior Chair and CEO of Christian Dior Couture Delphine Arnault discusses the appointment.

This makes wayyyy more sense to me- there was no way JWA was leaving Loewe to just run Dior menswear! Excited to see what's next for Dior 😍

... Me thinking back to the excitement I had buying stepladders for the kitchen (small, foldable, two-step), walk-in closet (light, aluminum, 3 step), and garage (aluminum, sturdy, 5 step)

Guess I'm a fossil πŸ˜…

Finding a Forever Home for FigPals | Figma Blog A tribute to our beloved FigPalsβ€”and a surprise to keep them close forever.

"What happens when you give a rock two eyes & a smile? Suddenly, a compression of sediment transforms into a petβ€”something to nurture, dote on & connect to."

I don't design much these days so missed the Figpal launch, but LOVE the whimsy - more of this please! πŸ’•

Design at the Speed of Thought The Designer as Conductor in the Age of AI

When tools disappear, thinking emerges. When craft becomes cheap, taste becomes rare. And when execution is instant, the only thing that matters is the clarity of your mind.

Had a coworker like this and our team adopted a policy of semi-bullying him back offline anytime he was on PTO

"stop commenting jim, go back to your vacation"
"thanks but go away jim"
"jim I see you liking this post, I will have IT log you out of slack"

β€˜Silicon Six’ tech giants accused of inflating tax payments by almost $100bn Study claims firms paid $96bn less in tax between 2011 and 2020 than the notional figures cited in their annual reports

not point of this story, but I need to know which Guardian editor keeps trying to push this cringe Silicon Six moniker πŸ˜…

Other than this article, the last newspaper to call them that was... also The Guardian... 4 years ago lol

Every example of "I succeeded by breaking the rules" needs to be served alongside five examples of "I broke the rules and got absolutely blasted" for a startup advice blog/book/podcast to not be considered irresponsible. Survivorship bias is incredibly strong.

You can see this same issue with LLMs today - retention is far below compared to non-LLM apps b/c users don't have enough knowledge of how to use the product. LLMs combat this with top-level explainer cards, but users still miss 90% of the value b/c navigating chat interface isn't as clear as GUI.

As a conversational designer, input is important, but the deeper issue is the iceberg problem: 90% of value of voice interfaces are hidden below surface & there's FAR fewer accessible navigational cues compared to GUI. Translation: hard for users to know what they can do = bad adoption & retention
