The lead dev recently dropped the CLA part of their AGPLv3 license, and they want to replace all (potential) AI contributions with real work from real humans. It's far from perfect by any means, but it shows that they care about community feedback - a weirdly rare sight nowadays.

Keep in mind that I'm biased about this, but if you're still looking for an alternative, I'm currently gravitating towards Fluxer.app. It's identical to Discord's UI, so the switch itself wouldn't be too painful.

I know it sucks to potentially have years of memories torn down in an instant, but at least give these alternatives a try. They have more of your interest in mind than Discord does, and that's a really low bar to beat. Some of them even have great features that I wish Discord had years ago.

Discord's not going to get better from here. It'll keep chasing the money and actively make the platform worse, until it becomes genuinely unusable.

Don't wait until after it's too late to make the switch. Make an early decision and stick to it. You're otherwise delaying the inevitable.

I've seen so many people putting in MORE effort into sticking to Discord - a platform that has many signs of a sinking ship, looking for reasons to be angry at REAL alternatives that could make a REAL difference - than actually putting in the effort to make a switch.

People are jumping left and right, blaming stuff being vibecoded (AI-made), age verification (which is what people are trying to get away from in the first place) or something being run by assholes. You can't deny Discord ISN'T all of these, so logically you'd want to jump ship regardless.

if you don't mind paying for a search engine then I recommend Kagi, it's got AI stuff as well but it's entirely optional and goes as much out of your way as possible, they even have an AI search filter where it's community-supported and you can report AI sites
