Sounds like a fun project.
Pretty much. Im curious to see how far Julia gets. After ten years in the Alphabet ecosystem, Iβm inclined to investigate anything whose developers arenβt beholden to the promo cycle. (Jax, tensorflow, etc)
Well, Iβll throw out something to provoke debate. With all of the modeling papers and tech reports, thereβs enough info to write a detailed spec for an agentic AI and see what it can produce using each language/toolchain. Probably a better use of GPU cores than yet another ERA5 trained model.
All of the climate scientists and academic mets did jump to bsky. And most of the operational mets followed.
We got tired of dealing with climate change deniers.
In the misty distant past of my academic career, most of the private sector-relevant material was either βGet a CCMβ or broadcast tv related. Both of which are booming sectors of the AMS membership.
I wrote about how the people who mourn Vicki Weaver and Lavoy Finicum are not, for the most part, mourning Renee Good or Alex Pretti.

Wasnβt his nickname among the students βBig Redβ or something like that? (Ken Minschwaner was my undergraduate research advisor)
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible for an extended period of time, including areas along I-40 from Tijeras Canyon to Grants. The weight of accumulating snow will stress the power grid, potentially creating outages. An extended period of cold temperatures will increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
Itβs never good when @abq.weather.im uses your location as a landmark in the winter storm watch.
As we speak, DFW ground crews are frantically looking for the five deicers that were last seen near the old Braniff HQ. God speed to everyone going to #AMS2026
Ahh, I remember the ice storm for AMS in San Antonio. Good times were had by all.
Mount Taylor/Tsoodzil east of Grants.
So Iβve got a major life announcement that Iβm rolling out on all my socials. After a serious health scare last year, I have decided to retire and relocate to New Mexico. My job now is to make sure that my family gets to work and school. Hopefully Iβll be able to work on my landscape photography.
Have to add autumnplot-gl to my personal backlog for Q1.
NCL for my grad school work, at Wunderground we used GrADS for interactive model maps.
Obviously a rough draft since Flower Mound and Southlake havenβt been renamed, and they really deserve it.
Without Unidata, the company I co-founded, Weather Underground, would never have come to be.
If youβre taking requests, Iβd love to see a random simulation slide to see how they visualized the sims Back In The Day.
Did Bob W take these? Or just part of his research collection?
My list of programs does not include Michigan because Michigan is always #1 for this competition.
It's that time of the year when all college football fans show their spite towards their rival fanbases by trying to give the most money to @newap-georgia.bsky.social #weathersky here is how some of the better known met programs are doing www.moneycannon.org?t=head-to-he...
The CI.
Will there be more students than professionals at AMS2026? I mean , Princetonβs CI is probably the first domino for the other CIβs, NCAR is probably toast, the drama about EESM shows DOE programs are at risk, and NASA is going to give all their money to SpaceX. #strictlymypersonalopinion
There are days when I wonder about the future of our discipline.
But not that unusual given TX-26βs history. Dick Armey was Michael Burgessβs predecessor.
The results were bad enough to forestall the proposed cuts. Iβm not particularly eager to run that experiment again.
This may be a sea story, but there is a tale that in the 90βs, NWS was considering slashing radiosonde launch frequency/locations. Ron McPherson, then head of NMC/NCEP ran an experiment showing the impact of the proposed cuts on forecast quality. (1/x)
