I talk about what APG is meant for, and how to really use the spec as a proper guide to using ARIA when needed.

No disrespect to Jose Felicano but as a bilingual person, "Feliz Navidad" is an incredibly repetitive and monotonous song. Heck, even you if you don't understand the Spanish parts, it's still repetitive.
Designer, Content Writer, Developer/Engineer, or QA Tester with unused learning budget? Here is your opportunity to learn how to make your digital products more accessible and inclusive! I have published courses that make it easy for everyone: www.pluralsight.com/authors/gera...
I've set up a small monthly newsletter called Focus State.
With accessibility support shrinking in a lot of orgs, I wanted to create something that divides that gap, builds community, and makes the internet a bit more fun.
If you dig digital accessibility give it a look:

TIL the first rule of ARIAβdonβt use ARIAβapplies to aria-busy too. Even when used right, itβs inconsistent across assistive tech. Thanks @gerardkcohen.me for the insight!

aria-busy is a misunderstood and misused property. Learn what it really does and whether or not you should be using it.

I wish rideshare services would include the option to not use any Tesla vehicles. I very much resent having to ride in one.
Pet peeve of mine: Accessibility visitors. These are people that treat accessibility documentation like a TripAdvisor review they spent 20 minutes reading, then show up and start telling locals what to do. Or worse, start trashing the place for everyone else.
(It happens, ask me how I know)
I would prefer a new attribute that splits up the literal description of an image (mostly provided by AI) and another to further explain the intent (mostly provided by humans that care)
So that Meta AI ad about Frank the fish... Meta AI was smart enough to tell the guy where the fish was bought and what it looked like, and even reminded him that Zoe's school gets out in 10 minutes...
Would it have been easier to tell him that Zoe took Frank to Show and Tell? Is this your AI king?
Happy birthday @karlgroves.bsky.social! Hopefully youβre catching waves somewhere.
My heart is heavy this week seeing the military used against my people. My heart is heavy for the military being used against their neighbors.
Seen too many examples of people adding ARIA to use as a locator for testing because of this guidance. The idea that using ARIA for attributes for testing will improve accessibility has not been proven considering errors with ARIA are going up (according to webAIM million).

I've spent my whole career discussing links vs buttons, over and over again. I never thought it would graduate to links INSIDE buttons. What kind of hell is this? #a11y

Do you work in tech and want to rebel against this administration?
Integrate accessibility into your product work, no matter the laws and the bullshit this administration says, no matter what your execs say.
Treat it as a given, don't ask for permission.
MJ was right! All I want to say is that they donβt really care about us.
But who is paying all the people that are taking over government offices and payroll systems? Where is that money coming from?
