Just to clarify, Alan Diaz who made this photo for AP had spent months cultivating a relationship with the Gonzalez family. He was tipped off that the house was going to be raided and ran inside to be ready when authorities broke down the door. 1/2

20+ years ago when I was living in Portland, I took a photograph there that I loved that was lit by those neon signs. Guessing that wall of payphone is no longer there.

The Fall of... Autumn always does this to me — twists my emotions, creates a sort of longing for bygone days, some unwanted acknowledgement of my mortality.

For the past two years, I've been photographing the data centers in northern Virginia, which has more of these buildings than anywhere else in the world.

A historic African American cemetery in Manassas, Virginia. The cemetery was disturbed, with nearby trees cut down and gravestones toppled during construction of a nearby power substation, on February 13, 2025.

A data center under construction in Sterling, Virginia.

Data centers close to a housing development in Arcola, Virginia. The homes were built in 2018 and used to back up to farmland. In 2020, the construction of the data centers began.

Huge thanks to the OG blogger, Jason Kottke for featuring my book. I spent two years photographing these bonsai trees, often thinking of the generations of bonsai masters who tended to them.

I’m down to my last few boxes of books, after which they’ll be gone forever.

Thank you and yes! We were there this past Spring and spent an hour there in that space. These places feel hard to photograph because they felt hard to understand, but it was not difficult to see their beauty.

The print copy arrived yesterday and it's still an unparalleled feeling to hold a copy of Time Magazine in your hands, with a photo you made on the cover.
