considering that replaying OFF was an amazing time (has it really been half a year ago?) I should definitely start thinking about returning to more of my indie game roots. so much core stuff that I easily acknowledge as important to me but I’ve kind of forgotten about

Cave Story was one of those games that was snubbed from the “games that strongly influenced me but got snubbed” list I made earlier. it was Iji that first got me thinking about “what if I made games,” but Cave Story has always been hanging in the back of my mind

I think the universe has been telling me I’m due for replaying Cave Story and Iji. it’s been like 7 years since my last revisits

I love how the cave story rap hits the emotional beats and not just the literal beats. that's how its done

anyway, I'm looking forward to whatever happens in the finale, though I'll have to find it first...

i've been on this journey for a pretty long time, it's crazy to feel that it's all about to come to an end soon. POKR, SOLI, BJAK, and WAR might just save the world!

after a slow earlygame and an occasionally grueling midgame, things have definitely plateaued out. feels like I have enough items/resources to explore dungeons more thoroughly instead of rushing them, and being able to WARP back is a gamechanger

FF1 playthrough update: I have restored all four ORBS!

needed a nudge to figure out part of the progression here but otherwise this part of the game wasn't too bad. I ended up doing the wind dungeon first so it was fun coasting through the water area afterward

like this game is introducing new mechanics every five minutes and I’m getting more and more scared. is there such a thing as a life simulation game with too much stuff to do

playing Pokémon Pokopia is making me yearn for two things:

1) living life as a Pokémon (also, Pokémon are real)

2) actually having enough time to play Pokémon Pokopia

it’s nice to boot up basically anything and enjoy my time with it, I’m super relaxed right now. but also there are not enough hours in the day for just these games let alone the ones I put aside aaaaaaaaaaa

I’ve been keeping the pace with work and the game project, but the one-two punch of Pokopia and Slay the Spire 2 completely threw me off course from my current playthroughs. the spotlight has been *stolen*.

it has been a pretty wild weekend so far, I have been playing every game in existence. hoping that this positive energy carries through the month and doesn’t leave me feeling too exhausted.

Slay the Spire 2 results screen. The deck ended up being built around having ton of Strikes (including 4 Perfected Strikes+ at once!) and playing them automatically from the hand with Hellraiser+ and Stampede+. Getting the relic that made the plain Strikes cost 0 certainly helped too, and those two Headbutt cards got a ton of mileage. Also, basic Defends were pretty much my only block cards, using Fasten+ to make them stronger. Fun times.

took me an embarrassingly long time to win my first run in Slay the Spire 2 but I'm glad it ended up being this one

- felt I needed *some* kind of Pokémon game on here and BW was probably the one I had the strongest connection to

- Undertale is a bit of a lame choice (especially when OFF is already on here) but it probably influenced me more than any other single game

- obviously recency bias for Angeline Era but it's here because it's like the prime example of exactly what I value in games. it's an excellent "this is what I'm all about" game

- not as attached to Hypnospace/Iji/Ghost Trick since it's been years but all of them had a massive impact on my life

anyway after like a week of not really playing much, that's two ORBs done in basically one day! I think I'm back in.

earlygame was slow but comfy like "oh, I can't get very far now, but that's okay because every small step makes me stronger." now every time I encounter a roadblock I have to wonder "okay do I just need to get lucky here, what can I actually do to change the situation beyond that." it's tense!

it's like, at this point I basically have all the money, gear, and spells I could want (I mean there's probably something hidden a chest somewhere, but still). you can only hold so many 30 HP healing potions. WAR can only CURE so much. that won't really meaningfully change even if you level up more

idk there's something exciting and foreboding about this part of the game. the party is nearly fully capable at this point (and SOLI the Black Belt's starting to deal some serious damage)

but in terms of dungeon crawling, it feels like there's a soft limit to how much you can do. it's a bit scary
