It's a good essay that makes other great points, but the "Mary problem" so dumb lol. Like Mary can do anything! She wouldn't want to be a librarian? Her grand achievement would be marrying someone else? George "isn't going to like seeing it" because she won't recognize him, and he loves her. Duh.
Anyone who's ever been as bone-headed with love as George is knows how much Mary loves only him. That's what makes most of the movie so frustrating, his refusal of what's right in front of him the whole time. The scene where he's an ass and Mary smashes the record she put on says it all, for one.
We've just released #WriteFreely v0.16, with a ton of improvements for the fediverse, including support for Likes, the Creator tag, and better look for your articles on microblogging platforms!

On my way to #FediCon in Vancouver! Excited to see friends both old and new in person. If you'll be there, let me know -- I'd love to make sure we meet up.
lmaoo insanely bad churn framed this way is a hell of a story
after having a long heart-to-heart with my AI best friend, i am now AI-generating my resume to send to the AI hiring manager of a new AI company. the resume showcases how absolutely stoked i am about AI
praying to my ultra-sentient AI god while on the phone with my AI therapist doing couples therapy with my AI girlfriend about how my AI ceo laid me off to replace me with AI. been a tough week, y'all
I love reading serious stories about guys who believe AGI is real, it feels like a bunch of millionaires plotting to find and capture Santa Claus

Twitter is never coming back. It was a moment of time.
Microblogging is a bad modality in a world flooded with malicious velocity, algorithmic distortion & frankly patterns we rewarded w attention in the peak twitter era.
We need to invent new forms, probably lots of them.
Hi again ๐ I'm back, getting caught up and back to work on @write.as & #WriteFreely. More updates soon!
the future is just us sitting by while a bunch of bros with no taste whatsoever post AI-generated bullshit and chant, "it's getting so good, so fast"
our networks are tightly coupled with our media formats, so something that should be a blog post instead comes out as this unwanted mutant child of maybe-photo, maybe-video, maybe-text โ ground up and processed into this unappetizing content soup for us to begrudgingly slurp
an Instagram reel that's basically a still image just telling you to read a caption is the most cursed social media format
Oh yep I did respond โ but just sent it again in case the first didn't go through. Might want to check spam folder too, in case it ended up there
Ah, sorry about that. What were you emailing about, so I can find the message?
Yo! ๐ Think I responded, but let me know if you didn't get the email. It's just me here, so responses take a bit sometimes :)
We're celebrating a decade on the web with a sale on our long-lasting Pro plan and iOS app, all throughout February ๐ฅณ

Honestly bring back timed programming and put it in streaming services. Curate channels and let me pick one. Sometimes I just wanna watch *something* without thinking too hard about it.
For one, being able to leverage moderation already in bsky would be absolutely huge.
Having to build all that functionality from scratch is the single thing keeping us from already having ActivityPub-enabled comments on blogs.
Seeing this, most useful and quickest way to getting ATproto into @write.as could be comments.
Beyond that, we could always send the full post contents, maybe both short and long formats alongside each other, etc. (I think that's the ideal for a platform like ours in these kinds of networks)
From the fediverse, I've seen it's hard to cram long-form content into short-form platforms without good client support (and that's beyond my scope).
So short-term, I think would use the bsky schema and just send a post intro with the link.
This is all really great information โ thanks so much for sharing! I'll start digging into it all.
I've been thinking of which way to go, but I think baking a PDS into W.a is the goal.
So implementing this on @write.as is trivial. But all it really does is verify that you own your Write.as blog.
That's great, but especially with our ActivityPub integration, I think people will expect it to do more, like send out your posts from that handle.
Verrry interesting ๐ค
I've always hated texting, since I was 14 laying in bed using T9 on my Nokia brick. These platforms are just texting but for the whole world to read and index forever
