I don’t have any plans; I don’t WANT to be arrested or shot, but I’ll join demonstrations in my area and whatever happens happens.

I’m old and have a lot less at stake than many people. If I get arrested, I won’t lose my pension. If I get shot, I’ll lose 10-20 years of arthritis getting worse and worse. I have no reason not to rouse a little rabble.

I hung on every word of the Watergate hearings. I hated Nixon and was thrilled that Congress and the Supreme Court held him accountable for his misdeeds. The civil rights movement, protests against the Vietnam war; all of that made me hopeful.

Today is completely different and more dispiriting.

This time it’s the Border Patrol shooting people.

Nah, there’s nobody in Trump’s orbit who has his cachet. The MAGAs don’t like Vance or Miller and won’t turn their slavish devotion to them. The Republican senators and representatives won’t be afraid of them. When Trump goes, his cult goes.

Trump doesn’t have 40 years left. He probably has closer to 2. That’s our bright spot.
