~850k jobs launched by RunsOn yesterday!
A question I often get asked is how I "force" customers to upgrade to more recent versions of self-hosted software like RunsOn.
I just don't. Each RunsOn installation embeds everything it needs, so truly breaking changes are very rare. I still have users running with a June 2024 release.
900 stars soon for runs-on.com!
The perks of solo founder mode
New @cursor_ai Plan mode, with the ability to manually edit the generated plan before acceptance (instead of doing another round with the agent), is really nice.
AWS marketplace frontend, on the vendor side, is really something. Laggy, buggy, and using software released 10+ years ago!
New high for RunsOn, with more than 750,000 jobs launched in a day! Users saved about $100,000 compared to comparable hosted GitHub Actions runners.
Currently rewriting the Packager.io backend for storing DEB / RPM packages, in a modern way. Will be available for self-hosting as a single binary, far cheaper than e.g. packagecloud .io.
Took some time to get a proper dashboard for listing churned users and follow up over email. First reply is reassuring, hope it continues!
Did you know RunsOn can display your GitHub Actions savings right from the workflow job UI? Handles spot vs on-demand, variations among AWS regions, AZs platforms, architectures, etc.
Cloudflare D1 and workers are great until you hit the (quite low) limits. Max 10GB per database, frequent memory issues... time for a change!
Half a million jobs in a dayโฆ Saving close to 90% of your GitHub Actions bill while retaining full privacy of your code
Now available in RunsOn: detailed metrics for all your GitHub Actions jobs right from the GitHub logs output. Perfectly right-size your runners!
While some are busy rebranding for the summer, I'm shipping, and people notice! Now close to 450k daily GitHub Actions runners, up from 400k just two weeks ago ๐คฏ
Coming soon: inline cost computation and comparison right within your workflow job logs!
- Only RunsOn gives you unlimited cache storage space. And you know where that data is actually stored.
- Always use the custom cache actions from Hetzner-based providers that do not provide a transparent cache. That also means you have to replace all your language-specific actions (assuming the provider did the work to provide them in the first place).
- GitHub rolled out major improvements to its cache backend since Feb 2025. It used to be far worse (still ~2x slower than RunsOn though).
New benchmark โก: cache performance across GitHub Actions providers.
