More fun: I gave the rest of the crickets to the quails to play with this morning before heading to my desk. While I was flinging them into the quaviary, a bold Sceloporus ran in, snagged a cricket, and scarfed the entire thing down before running out again, lol. Happy Snacks Friday everyone
Update: SOMEONE ate 9/10 crickets I left in there last night! Getting a good tummy on him. I gave him 5 more and will release him this afternoon once he’s fully charged

I've exited my weepy sadsack era and am entering my weepy appreciation for the boy and all the good times era. I miss him like crazy and still am seeing him everywhere, but that makes me happy, so it's okay for now.
His ashes are ready tomorrow. I'm glad he'll be back home with us soon.
yea they are, thanks for asking! Almost springtime, which usually means the males fight like crazy with each other unless I separate them, but this year I only have two males and one of them is too old to care about fighting and mating anymore, so I suspect it's going to be a peaceful year

I wish we had more! I've only seen four in the last 7 years I've lived in Socal. We have an absolute ton of Sceloporus and Uta though, you can't peek outside without seeing them running around

I've been in a bit of A Mood lately so we went to the reptile store for crickets for him (and the quails) to snack on. He gets to hang out and get fatter in the greenhouse tonight and then released tomorrow. gotta pump up my guy ahead of mating season

lmaooooo you remember that XD My secret plan is honestly to grow my collection out and then trade with them, cuz their plant takes up an entire driveway wall and is so gorgeous. Hopefully they're also crazy and find it amusing and are not weirded out
I think most of these folks are getting their plants from one academic who lives half of his year in Ecuador and the rest in the US, and who sells cuttings from his own plants at home. I am pretty sure he is the original guy that introduced the A. salvadorensis "Darth Vader" plant into cultivation.
I try real hard not to buy shady plants (for Aristolochia, those are often ones recently described and from China/ SE Asia); there are a few sellers who do specialize though and sell rooted cuttings, and will offer certain rarer species around this time of year.
