I was going through old backups a while ago and I still had some reminders of those days, like this text file from The Edge.
I remember EMUSA the most though, and it was the first place I downloaded MIDIs of game music, too.

Great job! You guys wore out my ImageWriter ribbon. This is the one that was installed in there when I got the thing a good 10+ years ago. I just put a fresh new one in, let's see how that one does!

Recapped IIci with a Daystar PowerCache! I usually use my Quadra 800 for 68k adventures, though, so that's why this one gets routing duties.

Well it's a 68030/50 with 32MB of RAM so that should be sufficient unless...

(blink)

32 bit addressing. Yep... I put in a new PRAM battery so of course that was turned off by default! Turned it back on, let's see if that helps.

Apparently my router box froze up at some point. Never had that happen in previous years. I'm also seeing a reasonably high number of "Packet Buffer Overflow" errors reported in the statistics, also something I didn't see before. Anyone have any thoughts?

FM Melody Maker : Hybrid Arts Europe : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Music composition software for Atari ST computers.Β  Comes with a special cartridge containing a Yamaha YM2423 (OPLL-X) synthesis chip.Β  Disk image is in...

I recently obtained an #AtariST cartridge that uses the obscure YM2423 (OPLL-X) chip - a variant of the standard YM2413 (OPLL) with different built-in instruments.

I believe the software was previously undumped, so I have uploaded it to the Internet Archive.

Oh yeah, #MARCHintosh is back soon. I went ahead and fired up the ol' IIci and ImageWriter again, so Wafflenet on GlobalTalk is back in business for the month!

I'm still surprised they are monitoring old versions of Fusion that closely. It feels very difficult to find things, just wiped off the face of the net. I have my MMF1.5 physical copy from 2004 but trying to track down older versions and extensions is impossible.

If you just dumped your extensions folder, I wonder if Clickteam is flagging some extensions that were in the "Bonus Packs" that required a serial number to install. Hopefully you can make this available; I have a number collected myself but more is always better.

Also, I'm not sure why it shows llvmpipe as a second GPU in fastfetch... it's definitely accelerated with the mesa nv30 driver according to glxinfo.

Okay, really impressed with NetBSD on here. The nouveau problem I had with the GeForce 3 actually doesn't happen on the FX5200 Ultra! This thing is just screaming along. The capture card even works out of the box! Now if only TDE built on NetBSD, I'd be right at home in early 2000s *nix bliss.

Well, this didn't last long. I updated the kernel and now the Nouveau kernel module locks up the whole machine on boot unless I disable modesetting (which of course means no X11). Happens on any kernel from 6.12.68 onwards. Maybe I'll try NetBSD for giggles?

Definitely putting the "noise" in "noise generator" - it overpowers everything else!

Leave it plugged in for a while and I bet it'll probably boot in a day or two. My 2000 iMac DV+ does that.

MSI K8T Neo "dynamic overclocking" option. Instead of just writing the percentages, they have to name each level.

Unnecessary use of military terms in computer hardware in order to attract edgy gamers was already in vogue in 2003.

It's kind of funny how the legacy stuff rots out of Linux without anyone saying anything, or it is left partially working and it's not clear if it's a "me" problem or a "Linux" problem without hours of research. But it's also hard to blame anyone for not focusing on fixing stuff this old.

This isn't a hardware problem, it's a nouveau bug going back years and years. I also tried a GeForce 3 with mesa-amber (these cards have been dropped from mainline) and had the same problem. It even happens on NetBSD. I also tried a Radeon 9250 and it works, but is very slow.

-The big one: Mesa is a shit show. Nvidia NV30s are technically still supported, but X only does DRI2 and OpenGL won't use hardware unless it uses DRI3. If you force DRI3 it works, but if you use any WM more complicated than TWM (I tried TDE) the GPU will crash if the screen gets too busy.

Don't worry, I built this using a binary package host on a faster machine.

Among things that are "semi broken":
-Adaptec SCSI controller spews a bunch of core dumps at boot, but then works fine
-My VIA VT6421A SATA card works fine but renegotiates the speed to ATA/33.

Guess I haven't posted anything in a while. I'll just say it's because I've been waiting for this to compile. /s
Wanted to see how x86 Linux is holding up since almost every distro dropped it. It lives! But there's also a lot that isn't necessarily broken - but also kinda doesn't work.

LONG0751 has been found! Back in 2021 I announced the rediscovery of a text adventure named Castlequest (Mike Holtzman and Mark Kershenblatt, 1980). This month another β€œlost game” has been found: David Long’s 751-point Advent...

Since 2012, Arthur O'Dwyer has had an updating web page called The Search for LONG0751 about a lost version of Adventure that was playable on Compuserve. It has long been one of the top early "missing" games.

It is now found and playable:

I have a knowledge gap. I have this 168-pin RAM. It's FPM, not SDRAM, so I thought it was 5V RAM for a Power Mac 7500/8500/9500. But the chips (MT 4LC16M4A7) are 3.3V. Tanzania Mac clones/4400s used 168-pin 3.3V but shipped with EDO, not FPM as far as I can tell. What do these go in?
