THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

Rebecca Solnit Says the Left’s Next Hero Is Already Here

This happened. The print interview was edited in ways that feel very jumpy, but I got to say some things. Like: Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war. Too many people still expect it to look like war. [and then there's a crazy jump-cut w/out transition.]

Among patients initiating CDK4/6 inhibitors for HR-positive, ERBB2-negative #BreastCancer, most received liver function tests during treatment, but less than half had testing before initiation as recommended by FDA package insert.

Primary care physician involvement for patients receiving dialysis with end-stage kidney disease was associated with lower emergency department utilization, but not with reduced hospitalizations.

Skilled nursing facility operating capacity in the US declined by 5% since 2019, with the largest losses in rural counties and areas reporting staff shortages, impacting hospital discharge and access to facility-based postacute care. ja.ma/3P9ZX6Q

Kristi Noem has done a stunning amount of damage and it’s good she’s gone.

But this doesn’t change the fact that we need a complete overhaul of DHS, impartial investigations into the killings of two American citizens, and information on children that were taken from Minnesota.

Thank you for your inquiry, and for your interest in the AHRQ Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) program.

Unfortunately, AHRQ does not have current staffing to support scientific review, as the HHS Reduction in Force resulted in the layoff of our Division of Scientific Review, among others, and these Divisions and their functions have not been reestablished. Applicants are advised that if there are other potential sources of funding, they should consider those.

Email reply from AHRQ. When you or your family member or your patient dies of a healthcare-associated infection, remember who eliminated all science trying to prevent these infections

It’s a bit tiresome, but I think a good general practice when you feel your own institutional/professional life eroding under the forces of late capital is to focus on mentally connecting that feeling of struggle to the many others experiencing versions of the same.

Cohort study of ~11.5M singleton births across 677 counties between 1968-1988, aggregated to the county-month level, finds community water fluoridation was not associated with statistically significant changes in birth weight.
