Hmm... lots of problems with this image:
- Missionaries from my church are always in pairs
- Missionaries are always clean-shaven.
- This missionary wears a wedding ring — younger missionaries are always single.

Fun fact: Matz, the creator of Ruby, is a member of my church and served a mission!

One big change with retiring to take care of kids full time — I am listening to way less music than I did before.

RIP my Apple Music Replay.

Software As And End In Itself

I don't think I'll ever reach a satisfying conclusion about how I feel about LLMs and AI. But I do know it is eating software development — more lines of code written than ever before.
But who said that more lines of code is a good thing?

Does that use a lot of energy?

Ooh, I love this. Some fun observations:
- EVs are so incredibly efficient compared to ICE vehicles (or ICE vehicles are so darn inefficient)
- e-bikes are GOAT-ed when it comes to transportation efficiency.
- Air Fryers are surprisingly efficient compared to conventional ovens

This actually really nagged at me, not so much on its own, but in concert with something that's started happening to my son at school.

I started to write up my feelings as a thread, but then it turned into a full-fledged blog post.

Anybody remember MacHeist? That was awesome. Not sure how you’d pull it off these days.

Just wiped my computer after about 4 years to get a fresh start and whew, does this feel nice.

Amazing all of the cruft that accumulates over time.

‘World’s largest battery’ to help run Google’s new clean energy data center The tech giant’s latest project pairs massive renewable energy capacity with a 100-hour battery to support data center operations.

This is what I'm talking about!

Solar and wind powering an iron-air battery, which rusts and un-rusts iron to store and release energy.

It's inefficient (a lot of energy lost) and is heavy and takes up a good bit of space, but it's cheap and safe, and if you have energy surplus, why not?

Check out this very Shakespearian frog that my sister crocheted.

She's an author. You should buy her books: www.nataliebrianne.com

Also you should meme the heck out of the frog.

I'm having a hard time titling this one But it comes from a place of both grief and love

I hope this is more uplifting than depressing, but it is written from a place of grief.

picking up something new in your 30s is actually awesome because you know how you learn and can be direct about what works for you and what you want

Reflecting on my last job in tech "Last" in every sense of the word

I'm leaving the professional tech industry — a reflection on the last 3+ years at Echobind, and what the future looks like for me. (spoiler: it's pretty bright)

I used to shop at the worlds largest costco, and let me tell you, it felt like what I imagined a European coming to the US for the first time must feel like.

Absolutely breathtaking.

Admit it: software peaked at Super Mario 64, and it's been downhill ever since.

Okay, everyone. Wrap it up. We have all the software we need now.

(Though you can bake some bread. We'll never be without the need for good bread.)

Vibe Coding and the Maker Movement Is your vibe-coded app a Crapject or a Gift?

Related: read.technically.dev/p/vibe-codin...

> It produces something like hypomania: a state where your productive capacity genuinely increases. You lose the ability to distinguish between “this is good” and “I feel good making this.” The output is real but your relationship to it is distorted.

Confession: I like paying taxes

Wouldn't it be nice if you could choose for your taxes to go towards kindness, generosity, and helping people live better lives instead of, you know, killing people and spreading cruelty?

Yeah, I do. I really do.

Phantom Productivity

This post is about Minecraft and Factorio. That's it. It's absolutely not about all the other ways that we do things that feel productive but don't actually make a meaningful difference.

Yeah, this is one of those indestructible B&W Brother laser jets, so I guess I'm set for life when it comes to toner 😅

26.02.2026 16:52 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Printer says it's almost out of toner. I need to print a bajillion documents for taxes, so I go get some more toner.

It's like $200 for a two-pack. Absolutely insane. Feel like I got robbed.

I get home, start printing on the old toner. Everything comes out sharp.

Feel like I got double-robbed.

My experience (which is very limited) is that creating the content IS promoting the content.

When I did YouTube videos for ui‍.dev, we had the Bytes newsletter to promote them, but I think most traffic was organic. And we got more traffic as we posted more videos.

Our motto: Always. Be. Posting.
