Can you imagine being knowingly stuck in a two minute loop with an urgent need for the bathroom? Like, what if it took you two minutes to get to the bathroom? How many loops before you just let it rip immediately? I think these are the true empathy moments Ebert was on about for cinema.

I don’t even understand how it could be any other way.

I aim for “differently” accomplished because I feel like knowing I’m comparing apples and oranges takes some pressure off. And I try to apply my focus only to things that I want to make me happy. This looks like a lot of “I want this for me, so I get to” framing.

Patience and a deliberate effort to reframe ‘motivation’ and ‘success’ have been helpful to me. It is a process that has required a lot of grace to myself, which is like a whole other challenge to develop and, I guess, really value.

FWIW, similar experience for me. As my meds have brought down my anxiety, I’ve been able to more clearly see how many of my essential routines have really been compulsions.
