Whenever I see news like this, I feel tempted to try KDE again. But then I remember the various annoyances I encountered in my previous attempts that eventually made me give up on it βΉοΈ
Yeah, although to be fair, 1.5 MW is a bit much even by Chinese standards π΅βπ«
It seems these charging stations actually have their own batteries. Since they're only used a few times a day, they use the idle time to slowly charge up, and then rely on them to hit those peak speeds.
At least this one's not their fault again π
Night! π

Nah, most of them still do it for the love of the game.

There's also the aspect that Notch was not very interested in developing something with long-term maintanability in mind, which meant that the codebase of early Minecraft was terrible. Jeb had to step up and improve things, but I assume there was only so much he could do π
I assume this is due to an obsession with productivity metrics, as these are usually tied to the performance reviews of *them*. Ultimately, it's those who show the best numbers to the clueless C-suites who survive, regardless of how they got them.
Fixing tech debt doesn't make number go up.
I can't pinpoint what went wrong. Their job is to mediate between customers and developers, but too many of them simply pass the buck to the development team without any semblance of negotiation at all.
Perhaps it's the dozens of managers trying to justify their high salaries by creating the illusion of work and slowing down everybody else? π
I mean, I don't think they spend much time on the April Fools' Day updates because they seem quickly thrown together. If anything, it might suggest that they are capable of doing things; it's just that something else is preventing them from doing it.
It's quite sad in itself that they're moving to Vulkan just because macOS is dropping OpenGL support. It seems that something had to break completely for them to move towards improving some major pain point of the game.
They don't even need multithreading; simply refactoring the architecture to something less insane would greatly improve performance, and this can be achieved within a single semester.
Heck, they could just follow Valve's example and hire the performance mod makers to bring their work home.
