It feels like the majority of knowledge I gained from social studies classes in middle school about civics and American government is useless now. I was promised three branches of government and checks and balances.

Let me add, generations of my family are intimately familiar with the hypocrisy and failure of the country to live up to its promises. Yet growing up, I still believed in the promise. It’s a gut punch to watch all these exceptions/failures happen in real-time.
