Fun tidbit, Canadarm uses the same input method, as demonstrated here by JAXA Astronaut Wakata Koichi
I am wondering if it wouldn't be too hard to build something with a few hall effect sensors (49E linear hall effect sensors are super cheap) and a clever arrangement of springs instead of an expensive 3D mouse for CAD
Or maybe like, 3 load cells, something like that.
The only thing I can find is this 3D printed project that is built around a 3DConnection SpaceMouse, which... does not feel very adequate www.printables.com/model/775578...
Maybe I am missing something, but I cannot find a good replica or a good analog of this input device on the space shuttle's cockpit that can be just used on a computer.
It is called the THC: Translation Hand Controller, and is a 3 DoF device used for... Well, translation control in space!
one of the shiny new stuff that I need to look at is this new language to write shaders called Slang shader-slang.org
I think it is a Khronos standard. It also happens that currently the LunarG Vulkan SDK ships a compiler for it.
That's wide enough adoption to consider this seriously!
Random job in my mailbox, asks for 7 years "experience" of "GitHub Copilot and agentic Mode".
GitHub Copilot, a thing released in 2021.
Each* time
Watch time I hear @reckless.bsky.social say the words “digital god”. My brain substitute them with “torment nexus”.
I don’t really know how to feel about the above really.
It’s your right to use the services you have access to. I don’t see how that could be a problem?
As far as I know Steam will avoid redistributing PDBs yes.
Well Steam does remove the files that would be helpful anyway. You may se logs in there still, but that’s about it?
It is a good thing that SteamWorks by default remove PDB files from your game builds.
It is rare to see a Unity game made by an indie that *does not* contain the `_DoNotShip` folder in it.
The only thing that would make this more "demoscene" would be if it somehow was powered by an Amiga 500
These signs are programmed by the same kind of person that goes to demoparties
And it can go full circle www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea7p...
It's leaking helium too, and it's not going to the moon in march, most likely.
Very good quality software, thank you Meta
Si j'étais riche, genre millionaire, j'aurais probablement pas de revenus...
Ce qui fait qu'effectivement, j'aurais pas cet impôt à payer.
The recording of my Vulkanised 2026 talk is now live 🎥
In this talk, I walk through the journey of bringing a Vulkan RT pipeline into Godot.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HddS...
Thanks to LunarG for the opportunity and to the @godotengine.org community for the reviews and feedback.
The full Vulkan specification in its latest version with all extensions is a small 6884 pages, as a PDF
(most of it is the description of data structures and function calls, but the first few chapters actually are explanatory)
I can see that an arbitrary loader exist github.com/StarMapLoade...
This get me some ideas...
Custom "engine" (they call it a "framework")
C# application, that calls into "thin" abstraction for a bunch of C/C++ libraries, this looks really cool from a technical standpoint.
Notable inclusions
- Vulkan (With GLFW and a GLTF model loader, libKTX too)
- FMOD
- RakNet
- STB texture
GPU upgrades are not really in the books. But I think my computer is starting to finally show some of its age, if this is what's expected here... 🤣
I have downloaded the demo of Kittens Space Agency.
Need to spend a little bit of time with this, but as far as a "spiritual successor to KSP", I think they're really getting somewhere here.
Loading the solar system (apparently the whole thing) destroyed my 3080 10GB I got in 2020
Yes. Computers used to be wedge shaped like this. I have an Amiga 500 in this form factor.
I think with small format motherboard and a good choice of a CPU you can get a good balance between power and thermal and put a real PC inside one of those maybe. The issue is space and cooling
I have become such a weirdo that I develop film at home. In current year 2026.
The first point is underestimated by the ppl in the other two. Software isn't treating AI hypothetically anymore. It's moving on to frameworks and paradigms. It could possibly affect development the same way Stack Overflow did.
I guess John Romero was not able to make us his bitch
Many years ago I used to host murmurd (mumble) for my friend group.
We were a bunch of nerd in engineering school, and I had a Linux server (dedicated one made of old hardware you could get at one of these French hosting companies for peanuts) for other reasons. So it made perfect sense to do so!
I cannot not be Virtual Reality
