A tape measure in front of the edge of the snow where the snowblower went by. It shows 15” (38 cm).
We had about 15” as of 9 am here in Croton-on-Hudson. I just finished the sidewalk. Driveway is still covered. Mint tea and honey here!

I have loved hearing about him building this project, all the while taking care of the people around him. It was so cool to hear that the first meal outing went so well, and heartbreaking to hear about the break-in.
My friend Dave in rural Oregon outfitted a bus to be a warm space to serve meals to the unhoused in his community. A few days after a successful first run, the bus was broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen. We can help: venmo @lionspawmt cashapp $lionspawmt gofundme:

Profile view of a shorthair dilute calico cat looking intently out the window.
Luna just eck-eck-ecked at the lady cardinal outside and then looked at me and blinked and started purring.
So borb! And they sit on their little feet to keep them warm!
Me: Is there anything cuter than a chickadee?
Tufted titmouse: Hi!
Me: Fair point.
All the cutie pie birds are at the feeder today: chickadee, tufted titmouse, cardinal, and junco!
You know what would end their roving patrols and racial profiling? Abolishing ICE.
Icing on the cake: “The prosecutor's office also said it was leaving X and would communicate on LinkedIn and Instagram from now on.”
I feel like sometimes we say "everyone's different and that's ok" to kids who really need to hear something more like "you're worthy of respect even if people are being hateful to you".
A quick note on some things I've been thinking about for a while 🦯👭

A gloved had holding up a thin piece of ice with a variety of textures including dendrites and bubbles. In the background is a river with snowy banks and icy edges.
We went down to the Croton river to check out the ice today. As the water level changes the edges freeze at different heights, forming lots of layers of ice. The ice can have beautiful textures like bubbles and branches.
It got down to 2 F last night but it’s a balmy 20 F now.
Small dilute calico cat sitting on a windowsill looking out at a cardinal on a branch.
Luna is enjoying the show.
Woo-hoo! Saw a red bellied woodpecker this morning!
Also the usual assortment of sparrows, juncos, jays, cardinals and squirrels.

We have some wacky deer tracks that I assume are from deer running sideways down the big rocks out front. Mostly they were after a decorative evergreen based on the convergence (and broken branches) there.
We get cardinals, but they hang out in the dogwood to fly to the feeder.
Looking down a set of outdoor stairs at compressed snow bird tracks left on steps after blowing the thin layer of snow off. The lower steps haven’t been cleared yet.
Bird tracks in a thin layer of snow on a sheltered porch.
I used the leaf blower to clear the thin layer of snow from our steps today. The bird feeder is hanging off the landing. The (mostly junco) feet compressed the snow, leaving a positive track!
For comparison, tracks in the snow on our protected porch where I put food out on the railing.
So cute!
We walked down to the Croton river this morning to check out the river’s frozen edge. Saw a couple of ducks, one with a cinnamon head. I’d guess green winged teal based on range. Lots of folks out walking today before the snow comes in.
@lookitup.baby is a good one. Although Chicago, @dansinker.com is on that wavelength.

Today I watched the birds all by myself as my cats had a busy napping schedule due to yesterday’s immunizations. They missed out on the tentative lady cardinal next to all the little song sparrows. She gets scared off easily but she’s so pretty.
Two cats on a small table, both looking out the window.
The cats have figured out there are robins out there.
There are robins in the privets, pecking about at the berries. Now I have to decide if that is a good enough reason to keep one of them. I really dislike privets but these are very excited birds.
Maybe we should stick to a message this simple.

I did not see the lady cardinal until after I took the picture.
