I’ll never understand how story points became a thing for software development.
Might as well use various animal sizes.
PM: “How long will this take?”
Dev: “Hmm, seems about dog sized”
PM: “But what does that mean? How long will it take to finish?”
Dev: “No one knows”
I’m actually fortunate because our team has implemented meeting free days/afternoons, but I still get days like this occasionally.
My calendar today has 5 1/2 hours of meetings, which means no actual work is getting done.
For the first time in my career I’m developing dotnet applications on a Mac, and deploying them to both Linux containers in the cloud and Windows servers on prem.
In the past, literally everything I did was windows based.
It’s an interesting change!
I’ve been a web/app developer now for nearly 17 years. I got into programming because I thought it would be fun to make video games, but never actually did any game dev.
I’m really thinking about trying to write a game in Godot just for fun and document it on here…
