After many great years in WordPress developer relations, I’ve moved over to product marketing at @wordpress.com. Still working on tools like Studio and Telex, just from a different angle.
Wrote a bit about the shift — and the new Blueprints feature in Studio 1.6.0.

I'm loving this two-week release cadence for Studio by the
@wordpress.com team. You can now connect and sync your
Pressable sites. 💪

Any ideas @briancoords.com?
The livestream will begin in two hours! @ryanwelcher.com and I are going to discuss and demo best practices for WordPress plugin development using AI.

Next week, @ryanwelcher.com and I are hosting a live stream on building WordPress blocks (and Editor extensions) with AI.
We’ll share insights from years of our own dev work and show how AI fits into established workflows.
Join us on 3/19 at 5 PM UTC: www.youtube.com/live/ZHTMLvy...
This should be a fun one. AI has fundamentally changed how I approach plugin development.

Ticket secured for @pressconf.events. Who else is going?
Hopefully it works from here on out 🤞
Join us Monday, 10am PST for a live chat about AI and WordPress - are autonomous agents and no-code tools really about to displace custom WordPress development? w/

Hmm. It's working for me on a clean install of WordPress with the Twenty Twenty-Five theme. 🤔
Yup, exactly. Cursor just did this on its own, but I like it. No need to break out parts and templates.
Yeah, it’s interesting. I haven’t used create-block in months. I just get Cursor to scaffold the block directly.
Oh wait, I think I can just tell Cursor to apply the schema in .cursorrules, so the hints are actually coming from Cursor, but based on the schema 🤔
I didn't think about that, but I'll ask Cursor if it has any ideas. 😆
But in all seriousness, the main file is still validated, and any errors are displayed in Cursor like they would in VS Code. Good enough for me right now.
This is for anyone who's built a WordPress block theme and struggled with an incredibly long theme.json file.
Just get AI to write you a solution. I should have done this months ago 😅

Thanks for the kind words Kyle 🙏
Interesting. I haven't tried Windsurf yet.
Experimenting with AI-assisted WordPress development is pretty much all I've been doing over the past few weeks.
Currently, Cursor is my platform of choice, and I have put together a little primer on my setup. Curious what everyone else is using...

Hope to see some of you at Developer Hours tomorrow. This will be the last session of 2024!
I used Cursor, which can use a variety LLMs. For this experiment, it was set to Claude.
Here's some additional information about my approach and the resulting code.

I set a little challenge for myself. Build a WordPress plugin that adds a style variation switcher to the front end of a site using only AI prompts.
After about an hour of prompting, I'm quite pleased with the results. The demo uses the Twenty Twenty-Five theme.

The future vs. the past 😉
As I look back on this year in WordPress, Playground stands out. The team has released an incredible number of enhancements for developers and users alike.
Join me and @ryanwelcher.com next week for the final Developer Hours of 2024, where we’ll recap the highlights: www.meetup.com/learn-wordp...
So, what part(s) of my Block Visibility plugin should be added to WordPress?
