Today, I was honoured to co-host a National Child Day breakfast at the Senate with Senators Clement, Pate, Martin, M. Deacon, Senior, McBean and Osler. Bringing young advocates from across the country together filled me with hope as we continue working toward a future where every child can thrive.
Today, as the Senate resumes, it was an honour to rise in the Chamber, as the Chair of the African Canadian Senate Group, to pay tribute to former Senator Donald Oliver. A great senator, a great Canadian, and a true pioneer, he leaves a legacy that will endure far into the future.
This week is Gender Equality Week, it is not just a time to reflect and celebrate but a time to act. Women still remain underrepresented in leadership, and too many face violence and inequities. As Parliament resumes, we must place equality at the centre of our work.

This is a notable milestone in protecting children's rights in our country and I urge parliamentarians to make children’s rights a priority in the 45th Parliament.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Marc Garneau’s passing. He was a dedicated advocate and committed to serving Canadians. I had the pleasure of working with him and seeing his commitment to Canada up close. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
Today, I began 2nd reading of my Bill S-212. Children and youth deserve a thoughtful national approach to their well-being. They deserve a strategy. This bill calls on the government to take steps towards this reality.

Yesterday, I rose in the Senate Chamber to give a statement on my recent visit to Edmonton and Calgary, where I met with inspiring Black MLAs, community leaders, and changemakers. The passion and innovation I witnessed reaffirm the strength of Black communities in Alberta and across Canada.

I'm pleased to share that I have introduced Bill S-212, the National Strategy for Children and Youth Act, in the Senate. It's a meaningful way to begin the 45th Parliament, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to move this important bill forward.
