I wish I could be surprised by this but it’s been the wet dream of a sizable segment of US Christianity for my whole life.

I feel the same way. War is about greed and selfishness, over control of resources, territory and people. Worse, those that advocate and order war into being never have to get close to the carnage they wreak on those “in the way” of the goals.
