We crawled the Monero P2P network and here's what we found:
- 16,454 reachable nodes
- 81.6% flagged as spy nodes
- 80%+ running on a single cloud provider (Spruce Creek)
Monero's transaction privacy is strong but its P2P layer tells a different story.

-> It’s interesting to see that the vast majority (over 99%) of Blocked requests are Badbits requests, i.e., requests for flagged content that is not served by the gateways.
-> It’s also interesting to see that the vast majority of Badbits requests (over 97%) comes from Taiwan.
Instead of only Served and Blocked requests, we now also present the percentage of Badbits requests, which were previously grouped under Blocked. We also show the number of requests that were Redirected.
ProbeLab has improved its tooling to distinguish between different service classes for requests that hit the traditional @ipfs.tech (ipfs.io and dweb.link) gateways. Follow the action at: probelab.io/ipfs/gateway...
This update brings the same level of transparency to Monero that we've already built for @ipfs.tech, @ethereum.org, and @filecoin.bsky.social , among other networks.

We’ve built pipelines to quantify the “power by agent” distribution in the network and the Storage Provider geolocation.
This enabled us to be the first ones to identify protocol behaviour details, such as, the number of duplicate messages received by nodes, the bandwidth requirement of Filecoin nodes, the proportion of bandwidth spent on each of the Gossipsub topics, and more.
In particular, our tool Hermes, has been extended to support the Filecoin netwok and act as a light node in the Filecoin Gossipsub network.
Lately, we’ve created new tools (or adapted existing ones) to monitor the network in much greater detail and provide to the community insights that no one else was previously able to do.
The ProbeLab team participates in FIL-rPGF Round 3 to showcase the extensive set of results that we've been producing for the Filecoin network.
