This reminds me of a camping trip way out on the Northumbrian moors, listening to deer feeding inches away on the other side of the flysheet, and that strange rising and falling churring song of a nightjar in the darkness. Magical.

2nd March, and we already have two blackcaps singing in the garden.
Blackcaps are increasingly overwintering in the UK these days. These two are almost certainly overwintering birds warming up for the breeding season. By April, they'll have more competition from incoming migrants.
