It's not really a browser source feature though. It's a capability of obs-websocket and browser sources just happen to be able to open websocket connections 😅

Ah nice. Yeah obs-websocket vendor events is definitely one way :)

You need a central means of communication that both ends connect to, like a websocket server or regularly polling a HTTP rest endpoint or something

It sounds like (High level) you want a random application to be able to call a javascript function within a browser tab (And that browser happens to be OBS)
