An annual must read by @stevesi.xyz - his notes on this year's CES. ~20,000 steps a day 🫑

I have a bunch 1st gen Philips hues that I bought for pretty penny 13 years back. But them being not supported in apps has made them generic led bulbs. One way I am trying to overcome this is buying only when they are supported by home assistant. Will see how this plays.

Was waiting for this and is always a treat to read your annual CES take. Thank you for all the walking. As a homelabber I am aware of the minipc vendors like geekom minisforum beelink etc. Good to see their mentions. Still not sure how smart home market will solve the problem of obsolescence.

We urgently need to rebalance EU-China relations Resolving serious trade imbalances will require co-operation and co-ordinated action

1/10
President Macron says "We must acknowledge that these imbalances are both the result of weak EU productivity and China’s policy of export-driven growth."

The first part of that statement is technically not true.

Been thinking about this since it was shared with me yesterday, especially about how oppressively most organizations pressure managers (even senior ones) to stay in that persona rather than actually leading

What stood out for me was the emphasis on productive capacity aka tradeable goods and services.

Understanding money and how it works has been an interest of mine forever. @interfluidity.com @michaelpettis.bsky.social have been great to follow over the years. Every now and then I come across an explanation that makes me like internet more. Here is one from reddit www.reddit.com/r/Economics/...

This is excellent, by @leedrutman.bsky.social.

(i think the piece suggests fusion voting would not do enough more than that it’s a particularly hopeful way forward. but the analysis of where we are, and how futile much of our factionalizing is, has never been presented more clearly.)

Greens are greens kale or spinach. Traditional saag paneer though is made with Mustard Greens. Grew up eating it so had to say actually.

Bits about Money (@patio11) Biweekly newsletter about intersection of tech and finance. Deep dives into the plumbing that moves money and the businesses that build those pipes.

Blogs and online posts have been also very helpful in how I view money. Two particular sources -1. Blog/drafts of Steve RW of @interfluidity.com continue to be read. 2. Bits About Money by Patrick McKenzie www.bitsaboutmoney.com

I have been fascinated with the concept of money since childhood. My young mind couldn't comprehend why governments can't just print more money. Read a bunch of books one particular book I remember is Lords of Finance. Looking forward to πŸ‘‡ book - Against Money

This does not sound like a happy experience, but I actually think this is more or less how things are supposed to work?

One of my most-cited bookmarks is this one from kellblog, on how there are really only three management levels: line manager, director, and VP.

Was cleaning shelves in the garage and found a box of 1.44MB floppies. My 12yo son was also there and I asked guess what is this? He looked puzzled (I was hoping he would say save button) I told him it is like an sd card and can store photos. Surprisingly even phone cameras take > 1.44 mb pics.

I like it because it demonstrates why improving application performance should focus on app-level metrics (latency+RIF) rather than machine metrics (CPU load).
