An Edward Gorey drawing showing a morose looking black bird on a branch. He (and this feels very much like a he) is pointing downwards with one scraggly wing, and looking straight ahead with debt-filled eyes. His beak is long and sharp, like winter on the Great Plains. He is pointing with his right wing, but this means he is pointing to your left. Your wicked, sinister side. This is no accident. The Bird makes no such mistakes. But he is talking, and the text tells us that he is saying, "Beware of this and that."
Honestly, you feel his message in your bones.
Some days I just feel like this Edward Gorey bird gets it.

I propose to make universal the old policy of the Blackfriars conference at the American Shakespeare Center:
If you do not end your paper on time, you will be forced to exit, pursued by a bear. Literally, a bear will come take your paper from you.

Enormous Christmas chandelier over the Brown Palace tea room. This is where the steers are held.
Blurry, black, and fluffy steers, with purple flowers in foreground (camera chose to focus on the flowers tied to their pen) they look uncomfortable and I felt bad for them.
Rodeo royalty sent to entertain us in the (long!) line to meet the steers. Teen gals dressed to the nines in glittering, customized rodeo wear.

An infographic titled "Tear Gas: Chemistry, Dispersal Methods & Effects". It details the active agent in tear gas, 2-chlorobenzalmalononitrile, showing its chemical structure. It explains dispersal via burning canisters (using charcoal and potassium nitrate) or sprays. Health effects include eye, nose, and respiratory irritation lasting 15β30 minutes. Treatment steps advise moving to fresh air, removing clothing, and flushing with water or saline.
US ICE agents have been using tear gas on protestors in Minneapolis. There's been plenty of tear gas misinformation flying around on social media; here's a summary of the chemistry and the best way to get rid of it (TLDR: water): www.compoundchem.com/2020/06/09/t...

Infographic on snowdrops, Alzheimer's and chemical warfare. Snowdrops contain poisonous alkaloids which, if they are eaten, can cause vomiting and diarrhoea. Falling levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine are associated with Alzheimer's disease. Galantamine stops an enzyme that breaks acetylcholine down. Organophosphate nerve agents target an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine; galantamine can bind reversible to this enzyme, blocking the nerve agents.
Snowdrop season is coming in the Northern Hemisphere!
What links these winter flowers with Alzheimer's treatment and nerve agents? Find out in this infographic! www.compoundchem.com/2018/02/08/s...
