I've been trying to give myself grace for not constantly working on the game every single day; it's kinda tough!! My impulse is to constantly be trying to be productive, but that's a pretty surefire way to burn out, so taking time/days to just chill a little is good, I think.

the wizards in this world I'm building a long time ago decided that being corporeal was for losers and the weak. Having a tenuous grasp on reality and what makes you real is cool so you have to chug on all that magic. The less there you are the cooler and more powerful

So half the battle of doing rebindings comes down to telling the player what exactly the bindings ARE in the first place, and parsing the info that Godot spits out. Not fun! But manageable, with a little work.

For reference, the "Joypad Button" sections here are Godot's default descriptions of gamepad/controller inputs. Very long, and in some cases not overly helpful. For instance:

What is Joypad Motion on Axis 4, Joystick 2 X-Axis with a value of 1.0?

That's your Left Trigger button, pressed.

Okay, after a few hours of tinkering, I've finally figured out how to parse inputs and actually describe them in a readable/useful way for key rebinding, such that the strings aren't overly long or annoying. Hopefully it will work for my purposes; the actual rebinding should hopefully not be bad now
