There really weren't many games back then that confront childhood trauma/CPTSD so effectively and directly. Rule of Rose means so much to me for this.
Will absolutely give Kuon + Haunting Ground a try! but yeah, can't say I'll ever go back to Siren in my lifetime. It's too much for my poor heart 😱

Rule of Rose is definitely up there as one of the best horror games for me! Everything about where that world took me had me horrified and totally drawn into. Such killer audio-visual production too; "A Love Suicide" gives chills on every listen, it's so beautiful.

...because animals in horror are my weakness; even Rule of Rose had some tough moments for me in that respect. Fatal Frame games are fantastic, love Clocktower 3 and would really like to try Kuon!
Forbidden Siren 1 + 2 are also so scary I legit can't play them. Era was stuffed full w/ classics!

You have no idea how much you're speaking my language. Illbleed is such strange and wild game and I love it deeply for it. "Something" is a perfect way to put it 😂 Everything you listed is a laundry list of all my fav horror games of the era; I haven't played Haunting Ground just yet...

Something so great about the contrast of how very mundane the hobbies feel for your antagonist. I mean, they're *fantastic* hobbies to have (I'd love to do more hiking!), but the idea of villains being way into them gives so much unexpected dimension to these characters!

I haven't revealed Frogbo's antagonist... buut, there is a character whose pasttime is deeply connected to the story—our humble narrator! 🗣️
When our narrator is bored (always), they keep an eye on Frogbo, or Bunibo... or others... as if omnisciently flipping between TV channels 👁️📺

Definitely! If I get into an action game I try to dedicate myself to learning all the intricacies to carve out my own playstyle! Stringing together combos can be tough to memorise though... I'm so horrible at executing Fatalaties in MK 🤭
