I think the second movie switched to her POV in the latter part of the film, and her growing alarm at who he had become or was revealed to have always been. I read the last scene as her understanding what he was doing, and the betrayal was that the change or reveal was complete. He chose power.
As someone who saw the two recent movies and hasn't read any of the novels, A) it seemed clear in the movie that this was political strategy, and B) there is a vast reservoir of fans of the novels who seem to be available at all times to offer context, and I appreciate them as an indexed resource.
Sesame Street is absolutely a cultural engine for introducing kids to media produced and stars who peaked 5-60 years before the viewers were born. Sadly, this means that while Elvis Costello may survive a generation longer in memory, Elvis Stojko, age 53, has been permanently lost for 25 years.
Yeah, I'm just finding out it's not a special flower from my sleep paralysis demon to me; it hands out this bouquet all over town!
But Marilyn Monroe and James Dean returned as cultural icons (arguably as exploited IP with no ability to decline to participate) decades after their deaths, while Elizabeth Taylor's image has coasted to a more natural sunset. I don't think new posters of her photos in her 20s are being printed.

The AppleTV reboot of Judas Iscariot reimagines him in an Ontario lake fishing town high school.
There has to be some explanation for this scenario in recurring dreams. I have never actually taken a break from the wheel to pop into the back seat for a break, and yet.

This is similar to the crank claim with a germ of truth that 20th century America "invented" adolescence and the concept of teenagers. There may have been a new cultural framing, but puberty was not invented in the 1920s, nor the ancient category of "youth" between childhood and maturity.

And the two who were actually educators had to work far more than twice as hard and had to be far more than twice as smart to make it up there with a college dropout whose big break was complaining about how woke and liberal his highschool economics textbook was and discouraged college attendance.

Arguably Evanston has a seething, barely-unspoken hostility to its major university, seeing it as a permanent property tax problem and seeking to strongarm it into paying up. The university and the town mutually view one another as parasitic and extractive, but they can't divorce.
Being terrified of Stalin if one is close to him is also the appropriate mindset.
He's like the fitness "content creators" who are just blogging content from 1950s-90s diet and exercise books. He reposts late 18th - early 20th century theory from the golden age of scientific racism.
He is clearly a counterpart to Lake Zurich "ok" punching kid. Non-nazi non-looksmaxxing youts are rising to occasions.
