I guess durability or density? No idea, I didn't know about Microsoft using quartz.

Diamond optical discs could store data for millions of years Researchers used lasers to make space for files on an atomic level.

If we assume a cost of ~$2640 per cubic cm of diamond and ignore initial equipment investment then this gives us million-year retention at $1.45/GB at room temperature with no power or maintenance required.

Not bad at all.

I'm trying to create a dataset of people arguing about the creation of datasets. Is bluesky the right place to do that?

This is a bluesky robbery. Everyone remain calm. I'm going to go into the vault and retrieve the engagement of the users with dedicated feeds set to certain key words. If all of you cooperate, no one will get hurt. We're first starting with the OCaml vault. These FP folks won't know what hit them.

D. Transformers relevance to human cognition

I think other routes have a higher chance at success in generalization. I think reasoning is an important direction to explore for the time being. I think the amount of practice the labs get with synth data gen and large scale RL with these models is useful. I'm not Aidan tho.

Are you fr or actually just summoning him? sonnet 3.5 is better for most of my use cases but I still go back to opus 3.0 from time to time now. Similar reasons for when I want to talk to llama 405B. I love the big models. This feels like slander.

I believe Aidan is just hypothesizing that RL is the path that openAI took to create the o1 model. Maybe alternative routes to reasoning beyond RL wouldn't have the downside of being less likely to generalize? I'm not sure.

Aidan Mclau over on x wrote some great content that you shouldn't miss out on just because you don't go to the site. It's a fantastic article on reasoning models. Give it a read.
