Historians looking back on the 2026 midterms and trying to explain how the Democrats managed to thrash Republicans will point to many causes—but let me suggest that they should pay attention to these two words right here:

I'm especially proud today of my colleague @adriancarrasquillo.bsky.social, whom the White House not long ago called a "media offender" and accused of pushing "fantasy" and "a lie" when he reported that Trump was thinking of replacing Kristi Noem.
It's just absolutely gobsmacking. Can you imagine any other president talking about this subject so casually? And if he actually means this—if this isn't just typical lack of control over his mouth, further addled by dementia—how GROSSLY irresponsible that his administration is not preparing people.
