privately, but with a deadline after which they would make it public. And that indeed is brazenly: as trillion dollar company, using the software for free, detecting a security vulnerability, then asking upstream devs to solve it for free with deadline pressure, for them to risk bad publicity.

Sending bug reports is not an issue. Everyone is free to ignore them, but the information that there is an issue is generally positive, and allows discussion, collecting info, and potentially fix by volunteers. The recent problem was a reported security vulnerability by Google 1/2

Looks great, and seems to be possible to create an alias as drop-in replacement for grep (at least egrep/grep -E). But sadly no riscv64 binaries provided yet. Might open a PR for that, usually trivial for Rust.

Last commit last year and draft at IETF expired since February ๐ค. Is this slow pace expected or did the idea not get the expected traction?

Debian-based, FLOSS, and with a set of TUI helper scripts for ready-to-run installs of a.o. typical server software. Much like Docker but without Docker.
Suitable for single-board computers, but also x86_64 systems and VMs. Headless first, but ... it's Debian so you can install a desktop if needed.

Lightweight justice for your SBC!
Optimised | Simplified | For everyone - Backed by community, DietPi is a minimal OS image for SBCs - Raspberry Pi, Odroid, PINE64 etc. Install software optimised for you!
No one can do the choice for you, and knows whether you need to download media as well, a more complex storage server, or whatnot around the actual streaming server, or not. But if you want to test and get an impression of all of these (and more) options, try our little Linux OS: dietpi.com

I agree "creative" is difficult term in AI context, for the person writing the prompt(s), as well as the LLM generating the image based on its structure, training, and finds. Meaningful photos and real art are of course preferred. But as replacement for random clipart/getty, LLM images are IMO fine.

Our release notes images were never meant to be serious or transport an important message to start with. We started with mostly outdoor pictures matching the season. This year's AI motto just makes it easy to add slight hints about the content of the release, but we keep more playful than serious.

Definitely. I mean it obviously does already all over the place. For ads, blog posts, PPT relaxation graphics and all such things, where otherwise some standard clipart or Getty Images come into play, if you do not have or pay a designer, it IMO just makes sense.

Why is that? Because IYO the graphics are not good/interesting/eye-catching or because "creative" is a difficult word in the context, when comparing with human artists? When checking article/blog post/ads graphics from before AI era, IMO it usually was worse and not really creative either ๐

It does mistakes, it halluziniertes, it gives outdated, inaccurate, wrong, or wildly invented information, even when clearly instructed to provide facts. Great for creative things like images ๐, or drafts, or to get ideas, but never for finished solutions or definite answers to rely on.

I think AI can be a massive help, also and maybe exceptionally for eye catching graphics. Though our aim was more an experimental one when choosing AI as image source for this year. What I am concerned is that people trust AI for things which need to be accurate, functional or facts matter.

Thanks for the wishes. I agree healthy suspicion is needed for a serious production OS. No one has time to check every line of code. We try to be transparent, all builds done on GitHub, scripts print each command they execute etc. But trust may need independent opinions or actually trying it out.
