New episode out this week! Listen anywhere podcasts are found!
Iβm always accepting guest suggestions. Who is somebody from Northern Nevada you would like to hear on the show? I recently recorded an upcoming episode with Eric Edelstein, President of the Reno Aces βΎοΈ
As I try to move away from Meta platforms, I think itβs actually sort of better that Bluesky is a short text platform- thatβs basically how I used Instagram stories anyway.
I was never an active Twitter poster but could see myself engaging a lot on here (if listeners follow me from Instaβ¦)
In addition to the podcast, I also host trivia nights for DJ Trivia in the Reno area!! Right now you can find me Mondays at The Spot (downtown by the river) and Wednesdays at Rickβs Pizza (across from UNR)
Sign ups start at 7, game from 7:30-9, and youβll be home in bed at a reasonable hour!
A neat cloud formation
This cloud did a cool thing
Cute dog
My hope for this Flashes app: fewer text-heavy infographic and screenshot type posts, more photos (including of our dogs)
Thank you so much!! Yeah itβs a really cool exhibit, Iβm grateful to have the museum here and excited for the expansion this year too.

The first episode in the new season of Renoites (the podcast for Northern Nevada) is out now! This is episode number 150, with my guest Ann Wolfe from the Nevada Museum of Art. Check it out wherever podcasts are found or renoites.com
Thanks for listening and sharing!
A mountain goat in a smoky mountain landscape
I donβt have a lot of visual content for Renoites (itβs a podcast) but I need to be active on Flashes if I want to transition away from Instagram, so hereβs one of my favorite pictures I took during my year-long trip around the USA. This is Glacier National Park during a wildfire (hence the smoke)
Coming this week, my conversation with Ann Wolfe, the chief curator at the Nevada Museum of Art. They have a new exhibit called βDeep Time: Sea Dragons of Nevadaβ featuring art and artifacts related to the Ichthyosaur, our state fossil (and just a really cool prehistoric creature). Check it out!
A challenge I am finding with the Flashes app that has carried over from Instagram is that itβs been a long time since Insta was actually a photo app. It has been an image/text meme app for a long time, where most stories and posts that I see are more text-based than image based. This book is about how we use the word βLudditeβ disparagingly, as an accusation that someone is too dumb to understand or appreciate technology.
Actually, the Luddites were a well-organized LABOR movement that only objected to technology being deployed in a reckless and destructive way.
Iβm not fully clear about how BlueSky and Flashes complement each other or how to properly use each one. Flashes shows my photo replies on BlueSky as their own posts in my feed. My Flashes βlikesβ show text replies on BlueSky that I have liked. All I know for sure is that Meta isnβt for LGBTQ+ peeps

A loaf of homemade bread
I decided a couple months ago I might try making bread. I made 2 loaves and then never tried again but looking at this photo I remember that I was successful. Itβs a bread!
Cover of the book Blood in the Machine by Brian Merchant
Current read. I may use this account for more personal day in the life posting in addition to promoting Renoites content and episodes. We live in a weird place and time and Iβm still figuring out how to manage the various ways I communicate different parts of me and my life. Thanks for coming along!

Photographs displayed on a wall
Speaking of the Downtown Reno Library, they currently have an exhibit of photography by Renoites Guest Cesar Lopez aka delafoto. If you go to the library make sure you head up to the top floor to check it out!
I donβt know a lot but my basic understanding is that itβs built on the same foundation as BlueSky, which means that you can customize the feeds you use and have more control over algorithms that affect what you see. You can take your username and followers to other platforms. No billionaire owner.
I donβt blame them, preserving historic buildings is important too! Hoping for an eventual compromise that can benefit everyone :)
I do really like the book themed fencing! I donβt mind that the outside isnβt particularly flashy, it makes the inside all the more exciting by contrast. It definitely does seem like the signage is too small though. The Liberty side could have it high up in one row in a bright/contrast color π€

Downtown Reno Library is one of my favorite places in the city. Youβd never know from the nondescript building that it holds this lush oasis.
(This is my first post on the BlueSky photo app, Flashes. I hope this platform can replace my usage of Instagram and free me of metaβs grasp.)
Nice to see some fresh stuff on this block ππΌ Chrome Coffee Works just opened right there too.
I guess Crak Nβ Grill, the never-opened restaurant in the old Juicyβs spot, hasnβt paid rent and is out (after using ReStore funds from the city- Iβm curious on what they did with it). Does anybody know?
Iβm hoping to have our new city manager on the podcast this season. I guarantee Iβm gonna ask about ADUs and other ways to rapidly increase housing inventory and options in Reno.
There is a great book on the direct connection between violence to children like this and how it leads directly to right wing authoritarian views. Tuberville is actually giving a demonstration here. βI was hit and now I encourage violence and deny its harmβ
Itβs called βThe Politics of Denialβ
If Iβm reading between the lines (as intended) this obviously translates to βnot only can minorities not do the job, their very presence in the workplace is harmfulβ
Can the mainstream media PLEASE stop playing into the vague manipulated βDEIβ framing and start calling it segregationist? Please?

I recently had a good conversation with Chaplain Chaz Blackburn. Linked here for people who are interested in the topic:

As a temporary solution thatβs much better than a vacant plaza, I can not fathom why they never made it a food truck pod thatβs open every day from like 11-6. Put up some giant sun sails, give downtown people a place to go grab a bite, charge nothing or almost nothing to the vendors. Tada!
The idea of a president flipping the entire flow of federal money off one day and back on the next is absolutely deranged.
