huge windfall for gas station sign-makers as service stations across the country have to find room for another digit

WHY do so many people need to bring a bike on Caltrain? Because most of the region it serves has painfully under-funded sparse and infrequent transit. No bike -> a lot of trips become a slog, expensive ubers, or impossible.

Attacking demand at the supply bottleneck is some real decline stuff.

Putting busways on existing streets are among most cost effective projects. 20% speed improvement = 20% ops savings or 20% frequency improvement at no ops cost. They're like printing cash

Zohran is probably the first democratic politician who has managed to thread the line of:
-work with Trump on issues he could be helpful (housing)
-push back and win on issues where Trump is being evil (immigration)
-all while refusing to normalize or praise him

me: building more housing near transit is good because it makes housing more affordable and reduces car ownership

the Sierra club, for some reason: actually this is horrible and must be stopped at all costs.

it's not the issue of this story, but it is a transparent example of how the "cars are freedom" narrative is a complete farce. when the state controls your movement and can immobilize you on a whim, you are not free. car dependency is an arm of fascism for the car *IS* fascism and must be abolished.

in my experience famous chefs are really bad on urbanism. I remember tom colicchio being one of the loudest anti-congestion pricing voices in NYC too

The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there

I saw this in Emeryville today, & wasn’t surprised. It’s very common to see signs, signals, trees, etc knocked down by dangerous drivers, in addition to the people they injure or kill on a daily basis.

Where is the β€œCar Accountability Act” to address these exponentially more severe concern?

I love waiting 14 mins at rush hour for the bus in downtown Berkeley because Shattuck has no bus lanes and city leaders dont want to implement our climate action plan

Is S.F. the most millennial place in America? Here’s what the data says It’s no surprise that San Francisco, a place increasingly eschewed by 20-something Gen Zers, is dominated by millennials. Here’s which other places are similar β€” and how it’s changed.

For 200 years, SF's magic was attracting the next gen of misfits and entrepreneurs. Then we stopped building housing.
"Already an aging place, San Francisco now... has the fewest residents younger than 30, and the most Baby Boomers and older residents."

This martyr could be any of us. He is doing what so many of us have been trained to do. Standing and recording on his phone, trying to warn his neighbors, and now he’s dead because armed, masked federal paramilitaries are acting with impunity to perform ethnic cleansing.

NEW: We’re suing to block the Trump Admin’s unlawful attempt to impose so-called β€œgender-ideology” restrictions on HHS grant recipients.

These changes are yet another effort by Trump to unlawfully and maliciously target transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender nonconforming individuals.

This is obviously a, ah, provocative take on the subject, but it indeed an enormous societal problem that children have stopped walking or biking to school. There are plenty of individually rational reasons parents might drive their kids to school, but, in a wider context, no good reasons.

Heads up. Starting tomorrow, conductors will be using new readers to verify if you’ve tagged on or off. These new readers are slower than the current ones being used. You need to hold your clipper card against the reader for an average of 10 seconds before it verifies whether you’ve tagged on or not. Just wanted y’all to mentally prepare for when the conductor asks for your clipper card on the train or at the doors in SF.
