I survived.

Yesterday, I went to help Zmajska Pivovara in Zagreb, Croatia make whiskey. We ran about 1200 liters of low wines to distill down to maybe 600-700 liters of whiskey, which will be blended with Friday's run and barrel aged. We sipped moonshine all day and lived to tell the tale.

Got my first story acceptance of the year. I ended 2025 with my story "Banjo Eater" being accepted at Bourbon Penn on New Year's Eve. Now, my flash story "A demolition derby car, I said" found a home. Can't say where yet, but glad it'll be out in the summer.

I'm seeing all sorts of customs horror stories on FB in reply to this, and none of them are in the Balkans. It's no worse here than anywhere else. Customs just suck ass everywhere.

A tale of Croatian customs:

Comics arrive, from Marvel, that I worked on. Declared value: $1. Customs attempts to charge me €24 as their processing fee & taxes that at 25%, adding €6 & adds another fee of €27, for a total of €57 for a declared value of $1.

Fuck off. Return to sender. No thanks.

I didn't work on this, and in fact, it looks like it's black and white. I'm a colorist.

Cylindroconical fermenter filled a little more than halfway with fermenting beer, with doo-dads and gadgets hooked up to it.

New fermenter and temp controller, hooked up to the RAPT pill digital hydrometer. After fermenting in glass for 29 years, I've made a change. Cool to see the gravity change during fermentation via the RAPT pill floating in the fermenting beer. This is the 364th beer I've brewed. Cheers!
