There are some great examples in the replies of the many things she has been wrong about, but this was the one I was looking for. The single greatest miscalculation of all time.

First let's talk about wealth taxes and income tax and then we can talk about abolishing sales taxes

It looks more like a photoshop job to me anyhow

I really hope they are right, and if so we should double the tax

They should not be publishing any pro-war op-eds because doing so is morally wrong. But the editors who approve op-eds believe their job is to give hatemongers and liars equal access to their audience

Oof that framing

Does not move the needle at all to convince me that jail is at all appropriate here

Slop? No thanks

Can't really think of a bad day for that

For The New York Times to choose to publish Jesse Singal today, of all times, is a choice to attack trans people, to make them even more vulnerable while they are already under attack. It is an appalling abdication of the Times’s journalistic duties.

Unless you're wearing an N95 for the entire time you're in the bathroom, those airborne particles are already getting in your mouth & lungs. Don't really see why it's any worse to land in my coffee first.

I'm pretty sure a naan-disclosure agreement requires that you tell everyone about the naan.

Don't worry, I've been using Linux for like 25 years and I have no trouble finding things to complain about it still

Even if the first half was true (it isn't), the second half is absurd

The more of these fascist atrocities I see, the more I become an immigration maximalist. Let everyone in, give everyone work permits/green cards. Make it possible to get citizenship within a few months. Make it as easy as getting a driver's license.

Was there ever really any other choice, though?

Weird, I'm not even in the city and I remember in the campaign when he said explicitly that some of his policy goals would require approval from Albany and he was ready for the fight to get that approval if they didn't give it willingly

Sounds like a politically motivated traffic stop to me! Any cop hanging out near a protest so they can pull over people honking in support should get fired

But for a slightly larger profit margin

This is not meant to be a doomer position: this is meant to motivate you to fight like hell so that we stop them from carrying out these plans! Don't give up!

14.02.2026 20:10 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

"I believe that we will win" is true and good, but "we are winning" feels premature right now. We are only winning if everyone keeps fighting and we still need more to join the fight.

14.02.2026 19:56 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I absolutely did not say that! Read it again. I was warning that they have resources that mean we need to redouble our efforts to ensure they don't win.

14.02.2026 19:35 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I did not mean to come across that way! We need to fight urgently because they are trying to expand their concentration camps, we should not give up!

14.02.2026 19:33 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I've been actively fighting against ICE for almost 10 years, I'm part of local efforts on many fronts, and it feels like we are turning things around but it will probably get more intense before we win.

14.02.2026 19:30 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Understood! I was trying to spread motivation to fight, not doubt or reticence, but I accept that's not how everyone takes it.

I am more motivated to fight by "if you don't fight then things will get worse" than by "we are winning!" but each person's motivation is different.

14.02.2026 19:27 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

100% but for some people, they fight more when they realize that winning isn't inevitable. People may think they don't need to join organizing if winning is already a sure thing.

14.02.2026 17:59 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I agree with you! I think it's a delicate balance to avoid scaring people or making people think winning is inevitable (either one might cause them to not engage), but the goal needs to be to convince people to fight like hell.
