i think ive paid gabe newell more from the proceeds of my games than i've paid the government, but gabe doesn't pave my roads or fund my schools or feed the kids in my community
probably a few overdue conversations to be had about maybe paying less gabes before we pay less taxes or something
Toronto Games Week logo. A group of red, yellow, and green meeples, lots of clip art illustrations surrounding them. Text at the bottom says "Running a playful event in Toronto during June 11-17th? Submit it for inclusion in the program at TorontoGamesWeek.com!"

A sophisticated open world horse betting/breeding life sim from the maker of Desert golfing, Freeways and Enviro-bear 2000.
After months working in the shadows⦠meet Curse of Resthaven.

Next week! If you're in the Toronto area, I'll be talking about a recent critical edition of the Aperture Science promotional Portal tie-in website (co-edited by Alan Galey, @ellenforget.bsky.social, and myself) as well some of the implications for future born-digital interactive literature.
they say you are over the hill bc as you approach middle age, you stand atop that hill, a great vantage point from which to survey the low-lying territory that is your elder years, and then against your better judgement you begin to walk down, a brave adventurer, into the onslaught you will not win
A panel from Roaming by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki that captures trying to squeeze a takeout container into a too-full garbage can.
A panel from Roaming by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki. I love how it incidentally captures trying to squeeze a takeout container into a too-full garbage can -- a weirdly familar moment I've never seen in print.

I too love seeing my stuff at a used book shop!
A Google Home device with its mic disabled and orange LED lights.
I kicked my Google addiction, and now I just use my G Home devices as dumb Bluetooth speakers. When you switch the mic button off to stop them eavesdropping the LEDs go Cylon-orange and they look like they're glaring at you. More about my month here: jimmunroe.net/writing/dive...

Did you know the maker of Grand Theft Auto had a Toronto-adjacent office? They do, and it looks like they've been treating their workers... criminally. So I'm heading to the Solidarity Picket at noon this Friday! actionnetwork.org/events/solid...
My pal Callum invented that beer!
Me too. Check out Qobuz for a drag and drop replacement: import your Spotify playlists, similar pricing, but pays artists 5x more.
I too am no longer sweet on suites. Decentralize! Spread those eggs amongst many interoperable baskets!
Tangled is a good word for it. I'm taking some satisfaction in being patient with myself and the process. It's like a winter knitting project!
Oh, gross.
#Enshittification PSA: If you use Gmail to pick up emails from a custom domain you own with POP3, that will no longer work in January. Related PSA: I am currently feeling out #protonmail as a replacement.

At Sitges, the sci-fi and horror film festival just outside Barcelona. Really amazed at how it totally transforms the town... There's even a statue of the festival's mascot! It's been going since the late 1960s.
Kudos to @daff.space and the Game Sewer folk for their on-theme sludge refreshments served in petri dishes.
It was great catching up with one of my favourite comic creators @jimmunroe.net, who was debuting his latest book 'Zeroed Out', at Lucky's Comics tonight. Joining was local comics zen master @jasonturner.bsky.social with his latest, Vinegar #46. Always a cause for celebration. Sweet evening.
Hard not to read this as the choice in this cultural moment.
