I have wondered about those rugs, completely black, very sus. In toy, tool and gun restoration videos, it's usually pretty easy to tell which ones have dipped the thing in acid and dirt to make it look super awful beforehand, versus the ones that actually look like they came out of an old garage.

To my knowledge, Pinker's is the only essay that's been expunged from the online Edge dot Org "Big Question" section, even his name has been removed. Everyone may understand my shock to discover the essay, published in the 2007 collection "What is Your Dangerous Idea" concerned race science.

- Casually mentions continuing to post on X "for the good conversation"
- article followed by Minty's "summary" of breaking AI news quoting such luminaries as "Scott Alexander" under "Philosophy of AI"
I'm not against LLM in principle, but I wasn't impressed by the tone of that article which had more than a whiff about it of what Nassim Taleb called "generalizing the particular". As though nobody in history ever confronted, or solved, the problem of having too much to read in their field.
