recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs

An array of 2D characters in a visual novel game screenshot that appear to be dressed up for a masquerade ball: a 1920s ghost, three women dressed in Victorian costume, a woman in Rococo clothing, and a man with a skeleton face. The game UI is winter themed with three large snowflakes framing the dialogue.

Lots of options - I can make larger figure sculptures or doll heads, etc. :)

Thanks! 🙂 Maybe some of them, actually. I started this project so I could sculpt faces over the skulls, but they became more detailed and the project became more involved than I originally planned.

This was innovative! What I like about VNs and P&C adventure games in one title?! Mad sorcery, says I!

Yay~ it's always nice when someone notices. I wanted to make a point and click with more visual novel features, because I like how adventure games feel like an interactive storybook and thought it paired well.

A scene on a beach with pixel art graphics. It depicts two characters speaking on the right hand side of the screen in front of a cabin. On the left hand side of the screen are two portraits: both young women, one with light brown hair and a sad expression, the other blond and with a confident poise.

I want to make games faster but not with AI. I enjoy optimising my processes, and learning to make better decisions. So that I improve as a game dev.

List of parts of steam reviews:

Very good, the other reviews do a better job at explaining it all. And why it is so good. I just wanted to post a review so the game can get a higher score, and hopefully attract a bigger audience. Buy it!

This visual novel is a very fine work of fiction and deserve more attention. The art is (sic) shing and characters are very well written. Also I keep thinking from time to time about...

Going to the game itself, it's criminally overlooked and underrated. It uses 20s-like stylistics couple with a supernatural story about demons, lurking in the margins of the world that stopped believing in their existence (you can think of them as vampires, as they have similar....)

I am honestly surprised not many people seem to have played Tell a Demon. How in depth the story seems to go. coupled with the deeply established universe, intriguing story, and multiple routes that change how the character acts and their motivations is something that...

There's a theme to some of my Steam reviews and that theme is that I am bad at marketing 🤣 #gamedev

I mean, oops, it's not all ephemeral.. those pendants will probably look good a hundred years from now and won't yellow like the paper

6 months ago 3 0 0 0

Previous tweet - the ephemera is all stuff I've made over the years for this story world - originally Patreon-only, like the hand-made enamel pendants my mother and I collaborated on, some vintage-style embroidery, clips from a fictional newspaper and so on.
