Statues and "great works" commissioned by the powerful and wealthy would weave a narrative that I think most of us would object to or at least laugh at!

...and now that I think about it, if this train of thought interests you, check out "Motel of the Mysteries" by David Macaulay.

Some of our murals would ring true and reflect mankind's struggles with capitalism and classism, but an alien investigating our ruins would note that for each of those grounded examples we produced millions of reified icons to our "Coca-Cola" and "UberLyftWeimo" deities...

Really enjoying #PlanetOfLana2!

Art like this that's designed to succinctly & accurately convey history at a glance always makes me think of how muddled the theoretical archeology of our current society would be if divorced from written, spoken, and filmed reality...

Important because I think the non-engineer assumption is that new hardware is simply superior in every conceivable way...

Really hard to wrap one's head around all the decisions of architecture, flexibility, ease of use, and electricity consumption that can complicate direct comparisons.

But, but... he was from a dream.
Mario's dream...
An amphibious king of DREAMS?!

Oh, snap.
Between this, Parasite Mutant, and .45 Parabellum Bloodhound there's definitely something PE-shaped nagging at our collective subconscious...

That had BETTER be some sort of jogwheel with actual functionality...

Good question...
This is a very gamer-brained take, but it's almost like an MCU and Fortnite-ification where there's too many brand mash-up collab guest character stuff blowing up for suits to ignore?

Ad exec: "multiplicatively powerful marketing"

Aha, this is brilliant; turns out I'm just not as used to looking at oblique styles, probably due to random gaming choices of yesteryear, thanks!

Curious what makes this isometric style look... TALL?!
Is it some thing where the engine is now using perfectly square pixels but the art style was founded in an era of displays with slightly wider pixels?

I can't shake the impression that everything looks subtly stretched/squished vertically...

I am both terrified of and in awe at how prolific Renegade Sector manages to be...

I'm weirdly excited for Pragmata after that demo; usually laying hands on a slice of game sort of tempers my expectations a bit by replacing wild blue sky ideas of what it COULD be with realities, but I really, REALLY just wanted to keep playing more of it!

...maybe there's a Gramma out there going nuts recording and watching Soap Operas at 1.5x speed? Her Granddaughter introduced her to K-dramas and she feels like she's DROWING in content keeping up!

It may also be sort of baked into the active/participatory nature of the medium? Food for thought.

06.03.2026 02:18 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I blame the relative youth of the medium still; too many of us can remember when it was possible to at least be AWARE of everything happening in the space before it grew so fast.

We weren't alive when say, it was possible to know the name and rough premise of EVERY TV show or movie coming out...

This has also been my experience, and has led me to toward conclusions more like, "Players DO know what they want, but as a designer you should concentrate on the 'whys' and 'hows' that lead them to feel that way before simply trying to deliver on various 'whats' and wishes."

06.03.2026 01:39 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Heck yeah; if you're entertaining the idea of adding any hitstop to killing blows for that juice, consider "stacking" the effect such that a multikills like this hold for 2 frames instead of the usual 1!

06.03.2026 01:30 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I think if you've yet to be really jaded, if your neuroplasticity is still really high and Undertale or Homestuck or Deltarune is the first time a piece of media has hit you on more levels than just "this is really entertaining/distracting," that's the ball game.
You're gonna see/feel it everywhere.

Weird question; if you played and loved Portal 2, does looking up at a full or almost-full moon consistently make you... well, you know.

06.03.2026 01:15 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This would have to happen on social media platforms bigger and more mainstream than BlueSky of course, but I'd be chuffed if you finally got some recognition and commissions to do rad packaging that makes products stand out on a shelf, you know?

As a fan of "Goatse Roasters" I approve of you making up ALL the brands, but this presentation gave rise to the very mercenary thought that you should try doodling an "alt label" for the actual beer you're drinking and then tag the brewery that made it for visibility...

05.03.2026 00:54 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Is that the actual brand/name of the beer you had, or a bit of creative naming license?

On a more serious note, the Apple Ginger RedBull really does whip the proverbial llama's ass tho.

It was only a matter of time before other independent games journalism outfits started horning in on @jeffgerstmann.com's energy drink beat...

Which is how you arrive at Twitter levels of "I need to figure out which magic words make the robot actually show my posts to other people through all the invisible culling behaviors!"

Don't put an external link in there, don't type certain words!

This makes sense. And I'm guessing unfollowing them is too much/too far, we're in search of some sort of "middle way."

I can see how the more extreme forms of automated curation and algorithmic fuckery took root; "what if the system automatically smoothed out your diet from any one source?"

04.03.2026 23:14 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Pardon my ignorance, but is the loop creating the demand for this feature that there are people you DO want to follow, but they have a habit of either reposting too frequently or of reposting things you don't want in your feed, (the character of which presumably doesn't resemble their content?)

04.03.2026 22:36 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh snap, I didn't even realize that the original game's 90% off right now!

[Sequel Anticipation]

Looking forward to/hoping for:
-Tighter, faster platforming
-More diverse puzzle mechanics
-Paradigm shifts in perspective/gameplay

Based on my partner's demo playthrough, the expanded dual character controls look like a handful; unusual to use so much of the controller.

[On a Colony Far, Far Away...]

This playthrough I was struck by just how much like a Star Wars side story Planet of Lana feels; something about the score, the "droid" design, & fanciful approach to AI hacking.

Wishfully would knock a "Shipwrecked Padawan Force Puzzle Platform" game outta the park!

[Thinky Ludology]

Enough time's passed that I wasn't consciously remembering puzzle solutions, but some of them struck me as being difficult, mostly due to signposting issues.
Tuned toward veteran puzzlers perhaps?

Certain mechanics like having Mui drop you a rope wore thin as gating solutions.
