People are being denied and delayed for mental healthcare they're legally owed, and the Commissioner is issuing fines that amount to a rounding error for insurance companies. When I'm Insurance Commissioner, I will enforce Georgia's Mental Health Parity Act to the fullest extent. That's my promise!
I'm a Muslim woman running for statewide office in Georgia. And this Ramadan, I'm reminded again that service isn't just a job, it's a calling.
Ramadan Mubarak to all who are observing. Wishing you peace, patience and renewal.
The insurance industry has rigged the system in Georgia for too long, and John King has let them. My 4-bill insurance reform package would require approval for rate hikes, stop discriminatory pricing, and ban revolving-door lobbyists. Georgians deserve a Commissioner who does the job. Read more:
Rev. Jesse Jackson reminded us that the fight for justice is never over, and neither is the work. He gave us the blueprint: register voters, lift the voiceless, hold power accountable. Today, we mourn. Tomorrow, we carry on his mission. Rest well, Reverend.
I just filed 4 bills to take the power back from insurance companies and put it where it belongs - with Georgia families.
Insurance companies like to claim ZIP code pricing is about "actuarial data." In reality, it's about charging people more based on where they live instead of how they drive. This is modern day redlining.
My bill SB 506 bans it. Other states already have. Georgia is next.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Georgia! You’re going to LOVE how much money my 4 new bills will save you.
You can't effectively regulate an industry if you're planning to go work for it when you leave.
My bill SB 504 bans former Insurance Commissioners from lobbying the Department of Insurance for 5 years after leaving office. Regulators should work for the public, not the insurance companies.
Georgia insurance companies have been unchecked for years. I'm introducing 4 bills to change that:
✅ SB 505 - No rate hikes without approval
✅ SB 506 - End ZIP code pricing
✅ SB 507 - Ban credit score pricing
✅ SB 504 - Stop regulators from becoming lobbyists
It’s time to take our power back!
It's not enough to fine insurance companies for breaking mental health parity laws. John King stopped at the fine. I won't. As your Insurance Commissioner, I'll push to direct funds to community programs that help families recover and heal. That's pro-family leadership.
Today is Mental Health Parity Day. Our insurance commissioner, John King had years to protect to mental healthcare but he looked the other way. John King works for the insurance companies, I will always work for Georgians. In November, we are firing him!
Yesterday’s FBI raid of Fulton County election office and the DOJ’s revived lawsuit for Georgia’s voter records make one thing clear - This is not about 2020. It’s about 2026.
So let me be clearer - We will not bend. We will not back down. We will have free and fair elections.
Congress has left the National Flood Insurance Program on the brink, again. Nearly 80,000 Georgia homeowners depend on this coverage to protect their families and their futures, and it expires tomorrow, Jan 30. This repeated crisis puts real people at risk. Congress needs to act NOW.
Georgia elections are under attack. The FBI raid at the Fulton County elections office isn’t just about the 2020 elections.
Trump is setting the stage to rig 2026 because they know they can’t win fair and square. Y’all, we are going to have to fight this thing with everything we got. 🔥
Our Constitution is under attack. Congress must protect it to protect the future of Georgia and our country.
I demand justice.
I’m proud to host Doula Day on Thursday, Jan 29th! Please join us virtually on Zoom or in-person at the Capitol. Full schedule and RSVP link below.
As we head into inclement weather, I encourage everyone to stay safe! Check out these tips on how to prepare.
This is 5-year-old Liam Ramos. When I look at him, I see my own son. Right now, Liam is locked in a detention center with his father who entered the US legally and has a pending asylum case. This should never have happened! The whole nation is watching and we will bring Liam home.
I am honored to have the support of many of my Senate colleagues who have been working tirelessly to bring costs down for Georgians and push back against greedy corporations. As Insurance Commissioner, I’ll work everyday to fix our broken insurance system, lower costs, and fight for all Georgians.
It’s clear that Insurance Commissioner John King has failed to protect us from predatory insurance prices. Even the Republican Chairman, Matt Hatchett, agrees that insurance companies are abusing us.
Insurance Commissioner John King admits he doesn’t want the regulatory authority to fight against rate hikes from greedy insurance companies and that’s because he’s an insurance puppet.
If King is too much of a coward to do his job, he can just give it to me and I’ll do it.
Today’s new ACA “deal” in Congress is meaningless for the 1.4 million Georgians who rely on the ACA and for all Georgians facing skyrocketing insurance premiums. Georgia needs major insurance reform, starting with the office of the Insurance Commissioner.
My full statement below:
Tonight is the last night of open enrollment and too many Georgians still can't afford health coverage. That's why I co-sponsored SB379 to use state subsidies to lower insurance premiums and healthcare costs. Georgians deserve a healthcare system that works for them, not the insurance companies.
Safe Spaces Matter!
Yesterday, I introduced legislation, SB 391, barring ICE from entering our schools, hospitals, places of worship, libraries, and family violence shelters, without a warrant.
I’m proud to work to ensure stronger oversight of ICE in our communities.
For 4 years, John King let insurance companies ignore our mental health law. They kept denying care and overcharging us. He only started fining them AFTER I announced my run against him. Too late. He failed us, and in November, we're firing him!
First day of session in the books!
Insurance companies are price-gouging hard-working Georgians. I'm fighting back and I won't stop until premiums are affordable for all Georgians.
From health insurance to home/auto coverage, Georgians are facing an affordability crisis. Premiums are skyrocketing, coverage is shrinking, claims are being denied, and many families have nowhere to turn. I’m running for Insurance Commissioner to lower costs and get Georgians the coverage they need
