The race to reverse the saltmarsh sparrow's decline
The fate of a species depends on saving its waterlogged habitat
The saltmarsh sparrow might end up on the endangered species list in the next decade, and could be extinct by 2050. But groups are working to try to stop the rapid decline of the species. I wrote and photographed this recap of efforts in Maryland by Audubon Mid-Atlantic, USFWS and others. 🦉

One of my favorite memories this year was standing in the middle of a salt marsh at sunrise, surrounded by rare birds. The segment I produced aired this week on the season premiere of Outdoors Maryland on Maryland Public Television!
