I travel all across the 64,000-square-mile Chesapeake Bay watershed, photographing science, restoration and what's at stake for people and wildlife in the region. Hot off the presses is our year in photos, with work by me and Rhiannon Johnston, this year's skilled summer intern.
The saltmarsh sparrow might end up on the endangered species list in the next decade, and could be extinct by 2050. But groups are working to try to stop the rapid decline of the species. I wrote and photographed this recap of efforts in Maryland by Audubon Mid-Atlantic, USFWS and others. π¦
